Anita (Villeneuve) Smith, of Farmington, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband of nearly 65 years and her two daughters.

Anita's life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, and her great sense of humor.

Born in Hartford, Anita attended St. Ann School and Hartford High School and then worked at the Travelers Insurance Company up until the time of her marriage. She met the love of her life, William "Bill" Smith, a transplant from Boston, and they were married on October 8, 1960. Anita focused her attention on raising her three children and creating a warm and loving home environment. When her children were grown, Anita returned to the workforce in various positions at the Travelers, Freihofer's Baking and the West Hartford and Simsbury school systems.

Anita's favorite activities included playing cards, grocery shopping with Kevin, crossword puzzles, and watching Dancing with the Stars. Her most treasured memories include time at Hawk's Nest Beach surrounded by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and cherished nieces and nephews, as well as trips with her sisters and their husbands each winter. Despite being small in stature, Anita left a huge mark on everyone she met.

Anita fiercely loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and newborn great-grandchildren, Marin Tudor and Olivia LaCroix. Besides her husband Bill, she is survived by her daughter, Gail Baker of Simsbury and husband Raymond, their children Megan LaCroix and husband Matt, Kelsey Tudor and husband Marin, and Brett Baker; her daughter, Karen Smith of Avon and husband Gene Duarte, their children Drew Duarte, Haley Duarte and Brooke Duarte. Anita was predeceased by her adored son, Kevin William Smith in 2020 and her siblings, Germaine Zawadski and husband John, Gerard Villeneuve and wife Vivienne, Donald Villeneuve, and Cecile (Debbie) Tierney. Her niece Cherie and nephews Ken and Gary also predeceased Anita far too early.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Farmington Senior Center and Dial-a-Ride for the kindness they extended to Anita.

Calling hours will be Friday, September 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, at St. Brigid Church, 1083 New Britain Avenue, directly across from the funeral home.
