ANITA MAE WIERTZEMA, age 94, of Worthington, died Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Osceola Senior Living in Sibley, IA. She was born September 6, 1931, in Lyon County, IA, to Klaas and Anna (Eeten) Huisman. She attended country school before graduating from Ellsworth High School.

Anita married Virgil Wiertzema on September 1, 1955, at the Bethel Reformed Church south of Ellsworth. The couple lived in Ellsworth, Worthington and Bigelow before moving to the farm south of Worthington in 1961. Along with working on the farm, Anita worked in the school lunch room in the Bigelow School.

She was a member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington. She enjoyed cooking, watching the Minnesota Twins & Timberwolves; and especially attending her grandkids activities.

Anita is survived by her husband, Virgil Wiertzema, Worthington; son, Steve (Connie) Wiertzema, Hills; daughter-in-law, Cory Wiertzema, Worthington; four grandchildren, Kale (Hailee) Wiertzema, Hills; Karic (Nicole) Wiertzema, Hills; Sara Wiertzema, Worthington; and Jordan (Joe) Ahrens, Luverne; nine great-grandchildren, Rory, Conley, Cambri, Kai, Luka, Scout, JoJo, Zamara and Niko; and a sister, Lorraine (Arnold) Baron, Visalia, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gordon Wiertzema in 2021; seven brothers; and three sisters.

A time of fellowship will be from 9:30 to 11 am Monday, Nov. 24 at the American Reformed Church in Worthington. Memorial service will be 11 am Monday at the American Reformed Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Alan Salwei. Burial will take place at a later date.

Dingmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Worthington, is in charge of arrangements.
