Louise O'Neil Obituary

Louise (Hieronimus) O'Neil, age 97, of Worthington, passed into eternal life on November 4, 2025 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home, in Fulda, with her family by her side. Louise was born June 17, 1928, in Olney Township, Nobles County. She was the second child of 15 born to Frank and Carrie (Boots) Hieronimus Sr.
She received her education at a rural country school not far from where she lived through the eighth grade. After her education, she helped take care of her siblings and helped her dad with farm work. She also worked in Adrian. On October 7, 1947, she married Daryle O'Neil at the Presbyterian church in rural Rushmore. To this union two sons were born, Monty and Douglas.
After marriage, they started farming in rural Adrian, later moving to the Wilmont area. Louise and Daryle worked hard to create a successful farming operation. Louise spent her time working in the fields, cultivating corn, baling hay and helped harvest in the fall. She also milked cows, ground feed and helped take care of the livestock.
They farmed in the Wilmont and Rushmore area until 1974, when they purchased a dairy farm at Lake Benton. In 1989, they retired from farming and moved back to Worthington. After retirement, Louise also worked at the Super 8 Motel and County Market.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmont from 1959 until it closed. At the time of the church closing, she was the oldest living member. She was a member of the Wilmont VFW Auxiliary. She and Daryle also enjoyed square dancing in their earlier years. She also was a Minnesota Twins fan, and loved going to auctions. Louise always wanted to be remembered not for what she did, but for who she was. Louise gave much of herself to those she loved, providing love, care and support to family members who were ill, or in need. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother who beamed when her grand and great-grandchildren succeeded and was quick to tell others of their accomplishments. She also enjoyed having company stop by her house for a visit. The coffee or teapot was always on and there was always a treat to go with it. She always had a large vegetable garden, and did a great deal of canning, but her greatest joy was her flowers. She planted many flowers in the summer, and enjoyed her many house plants. Flowers were a passion that she passed on to both of her sons. In November of 2019, she moved to Maple Lawn Nursing Home after suffering a stroke.
Louise is survived by her son, Douglas (Linda) O'Neil, Arlington, SD; daughter-in-law, Darlene O'Neil, Pipestone; four grandchildren, Christopher (Marina) O'Neil, Elizabeth (Jason) Gutierrez, Paul (Jill) O'Neil, and Laura (Jason) Larsen; nine great-grandchildren, Elsie, Katie and Christina O'Neil, Nicholas and William Gutierrez, Taylor and Joseph O'Neil and Isabella and Timothy Larsen; her five sisters, Carol Kern, Adrian; Barb (William) Parsons, New Port, WA; Linda Thomas, San Diego, CA; Judy (Leon) Schaffer, Mankato; and Joyce (Gary) Eickhoff, Marshall; four brothers, Wayne (Jeanette) Hieronimus, Adrian; David (Marlene) Hieronimus, Adrian; Leroy (Gail) Hieronimus, Fergus Falls; and Gary (Linda) Hieronimus, Ellsworth; two sisters-in-law, Lyla Hieronimus, Adrian; and Carol Jean "Jeannie" Hieronimus, Adrian; and many nieces & nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Daryle in 1998; son, Monty in 2019; four brothers, Edward, Roger, Leonard and Frank "Butch" Hieronimus Jr; a sister, Evelyn Brace; three brothers-in-law, Donald Kern, Robert Thomas and Leonard Brace; two sisters-in-law, Donna Hieronimus and Dorothy Hieronimus; and special friend, Gen Stewart. Blessed Be Her Memory.
A special thank you to the staff at Maple Lawn Nursing Home for the exceptional care they gave to Louise while she was a resident.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 am Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Funeral will be at 11 am Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Shawn Ethridge. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
