Myron Walter Grussing, age 87, of Rushmore, died Sunday November 2, 2025, at his home. He was born February 20, 1938 in Rost Township to Herbert and Esther (Schuldt) Grussing. Myron graduated from Worthington High School in 1955 and South Dakota State University in 1959 with a Bachelor's Degree in Ag Ed.
Myron married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Claribel Groenewold, on June 21, 1959, at the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore, MN. After their marriage, they lived in several places-including Allen, NE; Whiting, IA; and Cottonwood, MN-where Myron taught school and began nurturing his passion for education and agriculture.
In 1963, they settled on the farm southwest of Rushmore, where Myron's lifelong dream of farming truly took root. He worked at Campbell's Soup Company in Worthington before beginning to farm full-time in 1970. Myron poured his heart into the land and livestock, and he found great joy in passing that love on to his children and grandchildren. Known for his ingenuity and determination, he often said, "Why buy it when you can build it?"-a motto that guided countless hours spent in the shop alongside his son and grandson.
His faith guided his life and work. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Worthington and proudly served as treasurer for the Adrian Methodist Church. He was also part of the United Farmers Coop Elevator Board. One of his weekly joys was gathering with friends for his Tuesday Night Supper Group and his Sunday Lunch Group-a tradition filled with friendship, food, and plenty of laughter. He also loved connecting with others through his HAM Radio, going on tractor rides, and traveling the country with Claribel and their cycling friends on their Honda Goldwing. Above all, he will be remembered for his generous spirit, his steady presence, and the deep love he had for his family and the land he tended.
Myron survived by his three children, Deborah (Lorenzo) Perez, Highland, CA; Mark (Paula) Grussing, Bijou Hills, SD; and Kathryn (Chad) Duwenhoegger, Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Kim Grussing, Rushmore; fourteen grandchildren, Alex (Nani) Perez, Nicolas Perez, Aric (Chelsea) Perez, Matthew (Kaci) Grussing, Tyler (Taylor) Grussing, Randi Grussing, Ryann Grussing, Chase (Jazmin) Duwenhoegger, Levi (Jordan) Duwenhoegger, Nicole Duwenhoegger, McKenzie Duwenhoegger, Bailey Grussing, Brooke Grussing and Autumn Grussing; nine great-grandchildren, Bodhi, Banks, Cru, Riggins, Sutton, Stetson, Synch, Madsen and Klara.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Claribel on June 6, 2023; son, Richard in 2017; and a sister, Lily Geertsma.
Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral will be 11 am Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor John Mitchem. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.
