DIANE K. THIER, age 83, of Adrian, died Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born December 15, 1941 in Webster, SD to Albert and Leona (Opitz) Deutsch. Diane grew up being loved by many aunts, uncles, and cousins after her mother passed at an early age. Through this experience she learned the importance of family and also taught herself how to become a beautiful seamstress, master gardener, and manage a household seamlessly. Diane met the love of her life, Bernard Thier, when they were both students at St. Adrian Catholic High School.
After graduation Diane began working at Safeway in Adrian as a bookkeeper and office manager. Shortly thereafter, Bernard and Diane married on November 19,1960 and began farming near Rushmore, MN.
She was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church. Her faith was very important to her. For many years Diane taught religious education, chaired the fall dinner and counseled couples before marriage through Marriage Encounter. She took all of these roles seriously and enjoyed them immensely. Community was also very important to Diane. She chaired Rushmore's Bi-Centennial Celebration and took great pleasure in the yearly planning and decorating of funny floats for the annual parade. Throughout her life Diane was an avid reader and a published author of poems and short stories. She enjoyed sharing her gift of writing with family and friends in her community.
Diane worked at the Worthington YMCA for 16 years as the office manager and bookkeeper. She loved working with the public which led to her decision to run for District 2 Nobles County Commissioner where she served 3 terms from 2001-2012. She loved being a commissioner and took her oath of representing her constituents from Nobles County very seriously. You could always rely on Diane because she was always up-to-date on the latest facts and information. She was a great voice for agriculture and was more than willing to speak to anyone who wanted to discuss ideas and solutions.
Diane is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bernard; children, Kim (Lane) Bullerman, Adrian; Julie (Jerry) Brake, Wilmont; Laura (Matt) Schoen, Delano; David (Ann) Thier, Rushmore; Jodi (James) Kramer, St. Cloud; fifteen grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; her sister, Deloris Kruger, Hills; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.
