Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory on Jan. 8, 2025.
Anita Ann Wigger (Deeb, McGregor) passed peacefully at home with her husband by her side December 19, 2024 after a courageous fight with cancer.
Anita was born April 29, 1972 in West Islip, New York to Ralph and Pamula McGregor. The majority of her years growing up were spent at the family home on the banks of Oneida Lake in upstate New York. She loved the water, and in the summertime could be found on the lake on her jet ski with her friends. While there she attended Paul V. Moore High School and later attended college at SUNY Canton and was a member of Delta Sigma Tau.
Anita lived in several places before settling in Florida. She left New York at age 21 and resided in Arkansas for a brief time while working for General Mills doing store openings for Red Lobster. She later moved to North Carolina, then on to Virginia where she was an accomplished real estate agent, and she also spent several years working in the death care industry where she won numerous awards. Anita was also active in politics, working on the Trump campaign in 2016 and serving as a precinct captain. It was during her time in Virginia that she gave birth to her two beloved daughters, Jadyn and Gillian.
Upon moving to Florida in 2018 Anita resided for a brief time in Orlando before moving to Key West. Anita loved the Key West community and the time she spent there. She worked as an Advertising Executive for the Key West Citizen and during that time produced an award-winning menu guide. She met her husband, Jared, there in 2020, and in late 2021 they moved to Gulfport, Florida. They were wed in St. Petersburg on October 22, 2021. Anita also loved Gulfport and made many friends there. In May 2023 Anita and Jared moved to
Okeechobee, Florida.
Anita loved the outdoors and the Florida lifestyle, the beach and the ocean, happy hour, camping, and canoeing with her husband. In addition, she was always a fan of last minute road trips to new destinations. She could also be found at home spending hours binge watching Survivor or true crime shows. While in Okeechobee she enjoyed bingo with her friends at the VFW and Eagles, Friday night football with the Brahmans, and jewelry making - learning that art from her mother Pam who passed unexpectedly in February of 2024.
Anita is survived by her husband, S. Jared Wigger of the home; her father, Ralph McGregor of Massena, NY; brother, Eric McGregor of Bridgewater, VA; sister, Corrina McGregor of Massena, NY; two daughters and one grandchild, Gillian Deeb of Harrisonburg, VA, and Jadyn (Tyson) Lovelace and Bowen of Leesburg, VA; three step-daughters and grandchildren, Halli (Colton) Weinmann, Millie, Wylie, Maggie of Springfield, MO, Lauren (Nathan) King of Salina, KS and Cheyenne (Sam) Sells, Patty of Mobile, AL. Anita is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, many of whom she had the chance to reconnect with on a trip to upstate NY this past summer.
Anita truly had a kind heart and warm spirit. She was always thoughtful, loyal, and compassionate. Anita made an impact on everyone she met, she had many friends, but a few very close who truly knew her. She cherished each one, and her life. She will be missed by all.
