Anlas S. Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cochran Funeral Home - Hackettstown on Sep. 18, 2024.
Robert Stephen Anlas, 76 of Independence Twp. NJ passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 in Hackettstown Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Irvington, NJ on October 10, 1947, "Steve" was the son of the late Andrew and Gertrude Mott Anlas.
Steve was truly one of a kind with multiple talents that he expressed in his quiet, unassuming way. His artistic pursuits included photography, stained glass windows, sculptures and more recently, tie-dyed tee shirts and fabrics. Steve could always be found on local lakes and rivers to see if he could land a couple fish. While working in his studio, he would always be found listening to the Beatles, Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia especially. When his boys were young he greatly enjoyed coaching little league football and supporting the Independence Chiefs.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Navy after graduating High School. After fulfilling his military term Steve joined the New Jersey State Police where he served for 20 years. After his retirement he worked for Hosking Livery of Hackettstown, NJ as a driver for many years. With his humor, wit and driving skills it was no surprise that "only Steve" would be requested drive his clients to their destinations.
He is survived by one son, Matthew Anlas. His ex-wife, Michelle Burd Wilson. Brothers Bill Anlas and his wife, Sue. Rick Anlas and Chuck Anlas. Sisters Carol Fischer and Barbara Land. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews. Steve is predeceased by his beloved son, Stephen Anlas and one brother, James Anlas.
Per Steve's request there will be no public funeral services. A private interment will take place at the Hackettstown Union Cemetery. The Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ has been entrusted with Steve's services. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.cochranfuneral.com.
