Ann Buys Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalf Mortuary - St. George on Sep. 29, 2025.
Ann Green Buys, 71, passed peacefully surrounded by family on both sides of the veil on September 27, 2025. Ann was born on March 24, 1954, to her loving parents Fay and Julian Green. She married her husband, William Paul Buys III, on December 13, 1973; the two were sealed in the Ogden, UT Temple.

Ann was raised in Roy, Utah. She loved her parents and believed the best thing they gave her was the 5 siblings she grew up with and cared for as the oldest daughter. Ann had a mind for academia and excelled in school. Her elementary school years introduced her to what would become lifelong friends, dependable through thick and thin. Ann was a faithful and valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ann enjoyed serving as ward organist throughout her life from the time she was 12 years old.

As a child Ann took piano lessons and quickly advanced in her skills. Ann was a beloved piano teacher to many in Tremonton and St. George, Utah. After her students left each night, she'd shift her focus to composing original music and arranging Christmas songs, spirituals, and hymns. She first became a published composer in 1997. When her health turned and composing music became too difficult for her she switched gears and began to write books and became a published author. She had many talents and utilized them all to their fullest.

Ann and her husband, Paul, enjoyed nearly 52 years together. They raised six children. Ann was a wonderful mother and grandmother who had a way of turning the ordinary of everyday life into something magical. With her car picnics, butt huts under the piano, tales of a monster with a purple mustache, fairy boxes, and magic rooms, she always made time with her children and grandchildren an adventure!

Ann is survived by her husband Paul Buys; her 6 children Jenny Baker (Blake), Sarah Pierce, William Buys (Shelly), Daniel Buys, Andrew Buys (Claire), and Julianne Picklesimer (Tom); her 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sisters Marie Tolman, Julie Allen, and Charlotte Woody. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother Max Green; and her sister Emily Green.

A viewing will be held Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. St. George, Utah.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Indian Hills Chapel, 1282 West 500 South Circle, St. George, Utah. The interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery,1777 south Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.

Ann, what a sweet, talented woman! I had the blessing of having her as my accompanist for many performaces when we lived in their ward. I always appreciated her focus and her gift that she freely shared with others. Blessings and love to Ann's family. She will be missed.

I took some piano as a child and as an adult I was one of Ann's piano students for several years loving every minute. I love sonatinas and as she had me learn them she and I would play them as piano duets, each on a separate piano. She had me play in two piano competitions (as scared as anyone can get. Then she started me playing for organizations in our ward (Primary and then Relief Society). She then got me started teaching beginning piano students which I did until the necessity to support my family and other employment became necessary. Now at 80 years old I only play for my own enjoyment.
