Adele Pigford Morgan was born on December 7, 1929, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Colonel and Nina Pigford. She was the third of seven children, growing up with her brothers James and Robert, before her younger siblings Donald, Blanche, Delores "Bootsy," and Shirley joined the family. Known affectionately as "Sister," Adele carried that title for life, showing her family and everyone who knew her what it meant to be a true sister.
Adele was educated in the Newark, NJ school system, graduating from South Side High School in 1949. She loved the church and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newark, NJ and sang in the young adult and adult choirs.
In 1952, Adele and Jack Augustus Morgan were united in holy matrimony and through this union they were blessed with three children, Michael, Tracie and Neil. They lived in Newark and
Hillside, NJ, where Michael and Tracie were raised, then later moved to Plainfield, where they raised Neil. Adele started working for New Jersey Bell (AT&T) in 1969 as an Information Operator. She retired in 1989 after 20 years of dedicated service.
After retirement, Adele kept busy by volunteering at the community center working with children, working the election polls, and performing community service under the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Amicae Auxiliary, where she was named Amica of the Year. Adele enjoyed going to play bingo with her sisters and she loved to read, especially books and information concerning health and nutrition. Oftentimes, she thought she knew more than her doctors and would tell them as much.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sharing stories about her life, from caring for her siblings and how she and her sisters would sing and harmonize while washing dishes, to their harrowing experience driving south during Jim Crow. She shared how she ran track in high school and helped her team achieve second place, and she shared her faith in God. She was a praying woman who leaned on her faith to weather life's storms. One of her lifelong desires was to author a book about her life titled, "But God".
After Jack's death, Adele relocated to Georgia in 2004, to be near her siblings, then to Bowie, Maryland in 2012, where she lived the remainder of her life with daughter, Tracie, and her family.
On Sunday, September 7, 2025, Adele received her heavenly crown. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Michael Morgan, Tracie Glover (Daryl), Neil Morgan (Monica); sister Delores Roberts (Rev. Lawrence, deceased); grandchildren, Randell Morgan Sr. (Shari), April McMillian (Chris), Maurice Matthews, Sean Glover, Alexis Glover, Gavin Morgan, Maiya Morgan, Naiya Morgan; great-grandchildren, Randell Jr., Holli, Leila, Jade; daughter-in-love June Blackwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
