Ann Downes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wright & Salmon Mortuary - Peoria on Aug. 17, 2022.
Ann E. Downes, 79, of East Peoria, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Apostolic Christian Home Skyline. Ann was born on November 3, 1942, in Springfield, a daughter of Anthony and Doris (Foster) McClernon. She married Robert D. Pendergrass in 1962. They later divorced and he preceded her in death. In 1993, she married Lawrence M. Downes in Peoria. He survives. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jack McClernon.
Ann is survived by her children, Mark (Susan) Pendergrass of Afton, Virginia, David (Kim) Pendergrass of East Peoria, Matt (Jacque) Pendergrass of San Antonio, Texas, Eric (Crystal) Downes of Great Cacapon, West Virginia, Julie (Bill) Henderson of Morristown, New York; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Tom (Nancy) McClernon of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mike (Susie) McClernon of Indianapolis, Indiana and her sister, Mary Kirkpatrick of Kewanee.
Larry and Ann enjoyed travelling the world and spending time with their children and their grandchildren, sharing their love and spreading joy throughout their family. In her life, she was dedicated to supporting anything her family was involved in, church, school, athletics and more. She was active with Cursillo and Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) for many years. One of her favorite annual events was helping put on a meal for an army of St. Jude St. Louis to Peoria runners in Modesto, Illinois. Her list of friends was long; her friendships were backed by love and loyalty.
A funeral mass will be at 11 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at St. Mark Catholic Church; a visitation will begin at 9 A.M. until the time of the mass. Monsignor Brian Brownsey will officiate, and a burial of her ashes will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude St. Louis to Peoria Run.

Ann was my first friend in Peoria when I married in 1965. w'hen we moved bak to Wisconsin, we kept in touch for these 53 years. Tried to call her today to wish her Happy 80th birthday but her phones are disconnected. That's when I found her obit:( She was a dear friend and I missed her h adntwhen we left. We only talked once a year lately but it always felt like we hadn't been apart. My hugs to Larry & her darling sons & families. I loved Ann like a sister.

To Mark, David, Matt, Larry, & family:

I´m sorry for your loss.
Ann was & still is a wonderful person who befriended me many years ago at Blessed Sacrament. She would take in stray dogs & a (?stray?) priest, and she cared deeply for her family, her community, and her faith.

I remember Ann as someone who valued & pursued the truth always!

Ann will be missed, and her spirit lives on in you, me, and others she inspired.
