Ann Marie Fontz, 71, a lifelong resident of Millersville, Maryland passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, after a six-year battle with vascular dementia. Born September 22, 1953, she was the oldest of six children of the late Gilson Fontz, Sr. and Betty (Franklin) Fontz. Her siblings include Betty Duncan (deceased) (Bruce), Nancy Gardner, Susan Fisher, Darlene Corbin (Mike) and Gilson Fontz, Jr. (Tara). She is survived by her son Denny Sawyer, his wife Halsey and their daughter Sophie with another sister on the way. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and God children over the years.
She was a graduate of Severna Park High School and went to work at C&O Railroad later becoming CSX Transportation as a Freight Claim Supervisor. She was married to Walter Sawyer also of Millersville for 24 years. She retired to become Denny's full-time mother. Ann was a loving, caring, and thoughtful mother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She loved caring for others, being with family, traveling, going to the movies, and loving her pets over the years. Ann spent many hours in Elvaton Park as a volunteer and at her church as an active member at Christ Lutheran Church.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 10th at 4:00pm at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church at 8249 Jumpers Hole Road, Millersville, Maryland, 21108. Memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers.
