It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved sister, aunt and great aunt. Ann Berlin Keffer, age 90, passed away peacefully late December 31, 2025 at Transitions Life Care. Her sister, Portia, nieces, Lee and Phaedra, were with her earlier in the day. She left this world with grace and dignity, leaving behind a pioneering legacy in chiropractic combined with her gifts of kindness, strength, and compassion.
A celebration of Ann's life will be held in Kinston at Westview Cemetery Thursday, January 8, 2025, at 11:00. It will be a small graveside service for immediate family only.
Ann was born on April 28, 1935, in
Kinston, NC to Dr. William Anderson Keffer and Vida Mae Lee Keffer. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of everyone she met with a warm smile and generous spirit while always remembering names and birthdays. She was devoted to her family, a loving loyal friend and woman of great faith.
She grew up in Kinston, went to Grainger High School, then attended St. Mary's College in Raleigh, North Carolina earning her bachelor's degree. Ann then gained her Doctorate of Chiropractic at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. After which, she moved back to Kinston to assist her father in running Keffer Chiropractic, which was the first chiropractic clinic in Eastern North Carolina. Ann was respected for her hard work, integrity, and commitment. She also worked for The Masonic Home For Children At Oxford, which opened in 1873 and was the first children's home in North Carolina. Outside of work, she found joy in connecting with people, always sharing passions with those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. William Anderson Keffer and Vida Mae Lee Keffer, brother in laws Benjamin "Ben" Kerr Avery and Dr. Ronald Jay Pollock.
Ann is survived by her sister Dr. Phaedra Keffer Pollock, who also attended Logan, nephew William "Bill" Keffer Pollock (Amy Ross), their sons William "Seth" Pollock (Amanda Ocando), "Andrew" Harry Pollock (Londyn Hutson), their children Charles Jay Pollock and Maple Pollock, who has the same birthday as Ann (April 28), Benjamin "Ben" Ross Pollock, (Allyson Drake), nephew The Rev Canon Ronald "Ron" Pollock, niece "Portia" Pollock (Edward Fudala), their children, Alexander Joseph "A.J." Fudala and "Colby" Lee Fudala, sister Linda Keffer Avery, sister Portia Keffer Neely, nieces Phaedra Ann Neely and Lee Neely Barton (Richard) and their children Davis Barton and Lane Barton. All of whom will miss her dearly.
Ann's memory and spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
