Ann P. Mahon

Ann Patricia (Gorman) Mahon, 77, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Oct. 20, 2025, in Swarthmore, at the home of her daughter. Ann was known for her great sense of humor, amazing kindness, and the joy she brought to any conversation - particularly over a cup of tea with family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Katherine Mahon, Andy Mahon, and Eddie Mahon; Andy's wife, Amara Riley; Eddie's wife, Lisa Angelucci; six grandchildren - Ben, Theo, Colin, Nora, Leila, and Genevieve; her sister Katherine "Kitty" Miller and brother-in-law Francis "Skip" Miller; brother-in-law Don Mancini (husband of the late Molly Mancini); and many beloved cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by Edward (Ed) M. Mahon, her husband of nearly 44 years; sister Molly; and parents, Patrick and Katherine (Hamilton) Gorman.
Ann was born on May 10, 1948, in Philadelphia. She moved to the Malvern area of Chester County as a child, around the time she was in first grade. She loved it out in the country. It was like the world switched from black and white to full color for her, she later recalled. She took many road trips in childhood and young adulthood to visit close cousins in Ohio and Michigan and considered those places home as well.
Ann graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School, spent many years working as a TV Guide editor and later as a secretary to the founding doctor of the Malvern Institute, a pioneering addiction treatment facility. While raising three children with her husband, she earned her bachelor's degree in education from Neumann University and her master's degree in education from Cabrini College. She worked as a teacher and reading specialist, including at St. Joseph School in Aston, St. Joseph School in Collingdale, and at Delaware County Community College. She loved her students and fellow educators - and loved sharing stories about their adventures in the classroom when she came home.
Ann met her future husband, Ed, at a dance at St. Joseph's University, when they were each around 18 years old. She had the grace of a ballerina, he said.
"You had a quiet elegance in the way you carried yourself and the way you walked. As far as I was concerned, you were the only girl on the dance floor," he wrote, many years later. "As I got to know you, I saw the quality of your character, especially with your family. If you thought that they needed help in either large or small matters, you provided it."
He added: "I feel honored to be your husband."
Ann was the glue for her family, bringing them together for vacations at the beach or in the mountains. In later years, she cared for her grandchildren, read them countless books, and once happily cheered on the sidelines of a soccer game during a torrential downpour.
She also loved the friends in her book club and cherished their monthly meetings, full of laughter and wonderful conversation. They were mothers and grandmothers, many from St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and Ann was honored to be included in what she called the "crème de la crème."
She was a proud Irish American and lived with God very near to her because of her strong Catholic faith.
Ann spent the final months of her life in hospice care, due to end-stage kidney failure. She kept her beautiful spirit and sense of humor even through the toughest days. One of the last conversations she had was with one of her young grandchildren - who had stories to tell and wanted to know if Granny liked mangoes.
"Oh, I love mangoes," Ann replied, and she continued listening and talking.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass 11:00 A.M. Thursday, Oct. 30, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Ave, Springfield, PA 19064, where friends may call 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. at the Church. Interment will be at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery.
