Jane Hamilton Wagner Barton, a cherished soul, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on October 8, 1927, in Philadelphia, Jane's life was characterized by her unwavering kindness, deep faith, and friendly spirit.
The daughter of the late John Edmund Logan Wagner and Eliza Mayberry Wallace Wagner, Jane was the heart of a loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Clarence "Nick" Seitz Barton, with whom she shared 52 joyous years creating a warm and welcoming home. Jane's legacy continues through her devoted children, Melissa Ford, Paul John Barton, Virginia Anne Lerch and her husband Richard, and many nieces and nephews. Her love also extended to her children's pets: Jakk, Otis, Wren and Ziggy, who brought her immense joy and comfort.
Jane was the second to youngest sibling in a close-knit family and was predeceased by her brothers, Ted Wagner and his wife, Betty; Bob Wagner and his wife, Maura; and her sisters, Emily Wagner Chapman and her husband, Bill; and Mary Wagner Marchetti and her husband, John. The bonds she forged with her siblings were filled with laughter, support, and care.
A proud graduate of John Bartram High School, Jane carried the spirit of community and service throughout her life. In her younger years, she was employed with Philadelphia Electric Company. Jane's work ethic was only matched by her commitment to her community.
A lifetime member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Jane was deeply involved in church activities. She lent her voice to the choir, created music with the bell choir, and was a pillar of the church's thrift shop. Her baking skills were legendary, and churchgoers eagerly anticipated her pies and cinnamon buns at bake sales, which she both organized and contributed to with love. She helped pack meals for the homeless at church and delivered Meals on Wheels for years.
Jane's zest for life was evident in her hobbies. An adventurer at heart, she loved to camp, garden, travel, hike, and kayak, embracing the beauty of nature with an infectious enthusiasm. Her beautiful flower gardens were enjoyed by everyone. Her daughter's cabin in Sullivan County was a place of solace and joy, where she spent countless hours helping out and relaxing, surrounded by the tranquility of the woods.
Those who knew Jane will remember her for the kindness she extended to everyone she met, her faith that guided her through life's challenges, and her friendly demeanor that made strangers feel like old friends. Jane's warmth, generosity, and her infectious laugh made her a beacon of light in her community and an inspiration to all.
Jane Hamilton Wagner Barton lived a life full of love, laughter, and service. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. As we bid farewell to Jane, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a spirit that will continue to guide us. Her journey on earth has ended, but her story will be told for generations to come.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 25, 2025 at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 3625 Chapel Rd, Newtown Square, PA 19073 immediately followed by her burial at St. Alban's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to St Alban's Episcopal Church or a hospice organization.
