Ann Maucele Saia, 94, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, at home, surrounded by family. Ann was born on December 10, 1930, in New Orleans, to Samuel Maucele and Irma Bizot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Paul Saia, Jr. She is survived by her four children, 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, who will carry her love moving forward.
The only thing Ann loved more than family was dancing. It wasn't just a hobby, it was her passion. From the time she was a little girl, she danced her way through life, eventually becoming President of the Dance Masters of America, New Orleans chapter. She performed in Variety Shows, traveled the country with stars, and later returned to New Orleans to open Ann Maucele School of Dance, which she ran for more than 25 years. Dancing wasn't just something she did for fun, it was who she was. And in true Ann fashion, the dancing school became something of it's own, overflowing with warmth and rhythm.
Ann loved a crowd. She loved to host. She had a special gift for turning strangers into family. Her home was alive with Italian food, dancing, laughter, and FUN. Saturdays at the Saia house started with dancing to Lawrence Welk, followed by a barbecue and card games with friends.
Ann was an excellent cook. Her granddaughter even created a cookbook based on her recipes. Her cacciatore recipe will always be the stuff of legends. She was proudly Italian, and her kitchen was the heart of every gathering.
Ann's presence was unforgettable. She was a life-force who treated everyone with care and respect, but also with a little sass when needed. She had a way of making any room feel like a party, and her laughter was contagious. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church on Esplanade Avenue. A funeral Mass will begin at noon. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and for dancing a little extra in her honor.
