Ann Hudson Woodham April 10, 1936 - April 12, 2025
Ann Hudson Woodham, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Carol Woods Retirement Community in Chapel Hill, NC, her home since June 1999.
Born to Margaret and Rev William S Hudson in Niagara Falls, NY, Ann grew up on the campus of DeVeaux School where her father was headmaster. She attended the Cathedral School of St Mary in Garden City, NY, serving as 1953 class president and graduating with honors. While studying American History at Bryn Mawr (1957) she met her Haverford boy, Lewis R Woodham. On December 29, 1959 they were married at Trinity Episcopal in Buffalo, NY with Ann's father officiating. Settling in New York's mid-Hudson Valley, Ann built a loving household for Lewis and their three children. Her family were blessed with Ann's wit and witticisms, her penchant for banter, and her ability to impart wisdom with humor and honesty.
Ann had a passion for history, literature, Bible study & politics. She was intensely loyal and compassionate in her care of family and others. She had a particular ability to offer counsel which would dawn on the recipient at a later time. Ann was a 4-H cooking leader, cub scout den mother, Sunday school teacher, tutor with Literacy Volunteers of America, piano teacher, church choir member and participant in many other community service activities. She managed these things while simultaneously battling mental illness for lengthy periods in her life.
When they retired to Carol Woods in 1999 Ann settled into a quiet life, continuing to run the household in support of Lewis' many public activities. The wooded campus was her favorite home after her childhood in DeVeaux Woods.
Ann is predeceased by her husband Lewis, and survived by her daughter, Lilla Woodham, married to Paul Schultheis, living in Roslindale, MA; her son, Daniel Woodham, married to Andrea Lynn with one grandchild, Miles Woodham, all living in Kingston, NY; son Stuart Woodham, married to Rebecca Fullerton, living in Bethlehem, NH.
There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donation checks may be made to the Carol Woods Charitable Fund, Inc, with "Staff Development Fund" in the memo line and sent to Carol Woods Retirement Community, attn: April M Mitchell, 750 Weaver Dairy Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514
