Anna Bernardi Turner, 95, formerly of Norwich, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Born on April 3, 1930, in Norwich, Anna was a daughter of the late Stefano and Maria (Asunta) Bernardi. She graduated from Norwich High School in 1949 and then earned a nursing degree from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing. Throughout her career, Anna was a nurse at many establishments including Chenango Memorial Hospital, Community Memorial Hospital, TACO in Sherburne, Dr. Dubar’s office in Sherburne, Dr. Brustowicz’s office in Norwich, for the Norwich Pharmacal Company, and finally the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford where she retired from in 1990.
Anna enjoyed plants, cooking, reading, and was an animal lover including her son’s African Grey parrot, Baby. Since 1958, Anna has enjoyed her cottage on Bradley Brook in Eaton, NY – where she enjoyed her nightly Jim Beam drinks. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Norwich, was a member of the St. Bartholomew’s choir, and a member of the Oxford American Legion Auxiliary.
Anna is survived by her children, Anne Rutter, of South Orange, NJ, David (Cinda) Turner, of Eaton, NY, Kathie (Mike) Holt, of Sherburne, NY, and Gard Turner, of Sherburne, NY; grandchildren, Amy Ryan, Anna (Ryan) Leary, James (Kim) Turner, David (Amanda) Rutter, Jacob (Danielle) Snyder, Sarah Rutter, and Stephen Turner; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Antionette Natoli, of Sherburne, NY and Stephen (Leslie) Bernardi, of Norwich, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Camilla (Louis) Leggiero and Rosemarie (William) Fisher; and brother-in-law, Joseph Natoli.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Anna will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at St. Bartholomew's Church, 73 East Main Street, Norwich. Family and friends are invited to call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Anna may be made to the St. Bartholomew’s Soup Kitchen, 30 Pleasant Street, Norwich, NY 13815 or to the Chenango SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
