Anna “Berniece” Imel, 96, passed away November 23rd, 2024. She was born in Wooster, Ohio, September 28th, 1928, to parents John and Flora (Meeker) Geiselman.

Berniece grew up in Wooster Ohio then moved to Indianapolis when she married Dean Imel in 1947. Where she resided in Indianapolis the remainder of her years. Berniece always referred to Wooster as home. 

Berniece worked at Atlas Market managing the delicatessen and developed Atlas’s specialty catering services until 1970. She worked at the Indiana Veterans Home in Lafayette while maintaining her home in Indianapolis until 2021 when she moved to Independence Village Senior Living. 

Berniece was a great cook, and she loved cooking for everyone. She made from scratch many of the items sold in the Atlas Deli. The large network of her family, friends, and children’s friends have all enjoyed her homemade jellies, canned goods, pies, and corned beef. Her passion was doing things for her family and friends. She welcomed everyone. Her circle always got bigger. She had a green thumb and could grow anything.

Berniece is survived by sons John (Becky) Imel, Steve Imel and daughter Judy (Larry) Logsdon. Six grandchildren, Nine Great Grandchildren and Four Great Great Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean who passed away in 1992; her parents John and Flora Geiselman; Brother Harold Geiselman, Sisters Nellie (Geiselman) Neil, Vesta Geiselman Durstine, Audrey (Geiselman) Lautenschlager and Granddaughter Cecelia Ann (Logsdon) Bender.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 3rd, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, from 12pm-2pm. Her funeral will begin at 2pm. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
