Anna Mae Markley (nee Devine), age 82, of Aston, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, on December 9, 2025. Born and raised in Clifton Heights PA to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Connor) Devine, Anna Mae was a graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School, Class of 1961. A woman of deep faith, Anna Mae was a longtime member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Aston, Pennsylvania, and had previously been a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Norwood, Pennsylvania. Anna Mae was the devoted wife of the late Rodney M. "Rod" Markley (2013) and sister of the late Mary Lou O'Connell.
Known to her 18 grandchildren as Nanie, Anna Mae was the heart of the Markley family. Generous, creative, and loving are only a few words to describe our Mom and Nanie. Every year, her grandchildren looked forward to Christmas at Nanie's house and the annual Pollyanna gift exchange, which she meticulously put together for each grandchild to feel special. She possessed a beautifully creative spirit, making gifts for all her kids and grandkids for each and every holiday throughout the year. No Nanie gift was complete without the thoughtful touch of your name puffy painted onto the gift! Her creative spirit shined through her sewing, gifting, knitting, and especially, her cooking. The delicious smells of Easter ham, Nanie sandwiches, soups, and "pickies" fill our memories. Mom could do it all, and put meticulous love into every detail that was appreciated by all in the family. Above all, Anna Mae's life was grounded in her deep love of the Catholic Church. Her faith guided her, strengthened her, and shaped the grace, kindness and love she offered to all around her.
Anna Mae's family was everything to her, and spending time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren was her life. She also had a great love for nature; she particularly enjoyed watching the sunrises on the beach, and spending days at her home in the Poconos was her blissful retreat. Mom leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, creativity, and faith. We will miss her deeply, but know that she lives on in our hearts and in the countless ways she has shaped our family.
Nanie would affectionately call her grandchildren her Angel Girls and Angel Boys. We now carry the comfort of knowing we have an Angel Nanie watching over us, quietly cheering us on.
Anna Mae is survived by Her Children: Elizabeth Touey (Joe), Brian Markley (Deanna), Paul Markley (Donna), John Markley (Sarah), and Colleen Markley (Mike).
Grandchildren: Liz, Erin, Caitlin, Mary Kate, Brian, Lea, Grace, Kayla, P.J., Logan, Emma, Evan, Ethan, Eliza, Gabrielle, Brooke, Nathan, and Kyle.
