Anna Magnotta, affectionately known as "Cookie" for her sweet and comforting nature, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born on January 1, 1934, to Patrick and Mildred Mattia and was raised in the Bronx, NY, alongside her beloved brothers, Artie and Patrick, nicknamed "Sonny" and "Patty".
Anna graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1952 and began her career at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Manhattan. Her life took a romantic turn when she met Amedeo Magnotta at a dude ranch in upstate New York. They were married on October 5, 1957, at Saint Frances of Rome in the Bronx. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and tradition during their 61 years of marriage, until Amedeo's passing in 2013.
Anna and Amedeo began their family in the Bronx, where their first three sons, Wayne, Brian and Craig were born. In 1962, they moved to West Nyack, NY, where they expanded their family with two more sons: Glenn, and Chris. A devoted homemaker, Anna dedicated herself to raising her five boys and nurturing a home filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of her famous Sunday gravy, spaghetti and meatballs. Sunday dinners were a cherished family tradition, bringing generations together around the table.
Anna was also known for her elegance and timeless beauty. She was a classy, stunningly beautiful woman who was impeccably dressed at all times, leaving a lasting impression wherever she went.
In the early 1980s, Anna returned to work as a Quality Control Specialist at Fisher Scientific in Orangeburg, NY. Her dedication and excellence were recognized with accolades throughout her more than 10-year tenure.
In retirement, Anna and Amedeo enjoyed their time together attending events with their local Seniors Club and spending time with family. Anna's kind, loving demeanor and deep compassion left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Her greatest joy was her family, to whom she was unwaveringly devoted.
Anna is survived by her loving family, including her daughter-in-law, Carol Magnotta; her sons, Brian (Eileen), Craig (Tara), Glenn (Jill), and Chris (Kelly); and her ten beloved grandchildren, Nicollette, Alexa, Ashley, Amanda, Scott, Gianni, Lily, Caitlin, Patrick, Lucianna, and two step grandchildren Elizabeth and Gabrielle. She was predeceased by her husband, Amedeo, and her son, Wayne.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, November 26, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, 728 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 27, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Shrine Church, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY.
Anna's family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband, Amedeo, and son, Wayne, in eternal peace. Her sweet, gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
