Anna was born September 2, 1946, in Houston, to Henry Hoppens and Lucille (Billingsley) Hoppens. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School. Anna continued her education at the University of Houston where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English. She began her teaching career at Easthaven Baptist school teaching lst. grade.
Anna met Gordon Paul Richter through a friend, and they were united in marriage on June 20, 1964, at her home in Harris County. They made their home in Houston, and she continued teaching elementary grades at Pasadena ISD while raising their three children. Anna was a very loving teacher. She and Gordon enjoyed playing with a “42” club while living in Houston.
In 1991, they moved down to the valley, at Rancho Viejo Country Club, between Harlingen and Brownsville, and she taught at Los Fresno ISD for ten more years until retiring.
Anna and Gordon moved to Lake Limestone near Jewett in 2000, where Granna enjoyed having the grandchildren spend time with them, feeding Gordon’s cattle and enjoying the lake life. Anna and Gordon were members of Little Flock Baptist Church for a time and then at First Baptist Church in Groesbeck. The grandkids called her “The Church Boss” because when they were there on Sunday morning she made sure they would “get up and go” to Church.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roger Hoppens.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon Richter; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill Gregory of Dripping Springs, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Kurt Griffith of Coldspring, TX; and son and daughter-in-law, Darrin and Linda Richter of Owasso, OK.
She is Granna to 8 grandchildren (and their spouses): Rachel Griffith of Alvin, David (Ashlynne) Griffith of Alvin, John (Zeel Vora) Griffith of Minneapolis, MN, Kathryn (Kyle) Thompson of Alvin, Clint (Kylee) Kennedy of Dripping Springs, Colton Kennedy of Dripping Springs, Trevor Richter of Dallas, and Robby Richter of Stillwater, OK; and to 5 great grandchildren, Blair, Caroline, Grace, Everly, and Samuel of Alvin.
