Anna Scheks

Anna Scheks, 79, of Akron, passed away on August 7, 2025. She was born on August 16, 1945 the daughter of the late Karl and Anna Matter of Salzburg, Austria. Anna graduated from St. Mary's with the class of 1963. She was a woman of faith and was a member of St. Matthews Parish where she also volunteered for many years. She retired after 24 years of dedicated service from Akron Public Schools and most recently from Hatton Elementary School. Anna was very involved with Hatton Elementary serving as the PTA President, she was on the parent teacher association board, and proudly established Teacher Appreciation Week. Anna received the Silver Acorn Award and the Polar Bear Pin both highly esteemed awards.

Anna was known for her ethnic dishes. Family and friends looked forward to her famous dishes of cabbage rolls , pizzelles, nut strudel and kiefel cookies. She always looked forward to Thanksgiving Dinner being surrounded by family. Anna enjoyed crocheting making many beautiful gifts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 53 years, Andrew "Andy" Scheks; and brother in-law, Robert Browning Sr.

Anna will be missed by her loving family, daughters Andrea Scheks and Susan Scheks; sister Carolyn Browning; nephew, Bobby (Nicole) Browning; niece, Jackie Browning Cook; great niece, Kathryn; and many beloved cousins.

A special thank you to Dr. Mark A. Smith for his excellent medical treatment and always providing Anna with the best care.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug 16th from 9:30 to 11:00am at St. Matthew Parish (2580 Berne St., Akron, Ohio 44312) where a funeral mass will be held at 11:00am with Fr. Mike Williamson as officiating.

Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial donations in Anna's name to St. Matthew Parish, 2603 Benton St., Akron, OH 44312.
