Anna Marie Silbermann was born on June 27, 1950 to Henry and Evelyn (Olds) Silbermann. At the age of 74, the Lord released Annie from her suffering and took her to her eternal home on September 30, 2024.
At the tender age of two, Annie and her brother, Leroy, went to live with their aunt and uncle, Minnie and Clarence Pontzius. They lovingly raised Annie and Leroy to adulthood.
All of Annie’s life was spent in Cozad where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1969. Following graduation, she worked for a brief time at Nebraska Plastics, but most of her working years were spent as a cook at local establishments, including the Circle S Café, the Green Apple and the Grand Generation Center.
Annie could be seen riding her bicycle all over Cozad, in all kinds of weather. She was a tough, strong, independent woman…and she could be a bit stubborn, too! Those qualities served her well as she battled cancer the past 16 years. Annie seldom complained, even though life was not always easy for her.
At the age of 15, Annie was baptized into Christ by Pastor Thurstenson. She was a faithful and hard working member of the Cozad Christian Church all of her life. Annie loved her church family and they loved her. Just before going on hospice, Annie spoke of the “crown of glory” she would receive one day soon. She very clearly said, “It’s gonna be something, ain’t it?”
Annie was preceded in death by her parents; Aunt and Uncle Pontzius; brother Leroy; cousin Gladys Harvey and her husband Bob; brother in law Gene Gangwish; and many of her pet dogs, whom she loved dearly over the years.
Survivors include her sister Carol Gangwish of PA; special friend Sandy Bice of Cozad and her family; 3 nieces Leslie (Bill) Delfs, Lindsey (John) Swanson, Kelsey (Brian) Kettl ; 5 great nieces and nephews. Annie will be greatly missed by her church family and caring friends Bonnie Powell, Jolene Sonckson, Julie Stiles and Denise Bullis; as well as many others that touched Annie’s life.
Memorials are suggested to the Cozad Christian Church. Services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad Christian Church with Pastor Lyle Burwell officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to service time.
