Sandra Silbermann Obituary

Sandra K. Silbermann
With great regret, we inform our friends and relatives of the passing of our dear wife and mother, Sandra K. Silbermann, on Friday, January 1, 2021.
Sandra was born in October 1930, in the Bronx, NY, to Henry and Carrie Goldstein Katz, both born in Harlem, NY. In 1948, she graduated from William Howard Taft High School. She met Ludwig "Lou" Silbermann when a friend and the friend's boyfriend planned an outing for a group of her girlfriends and his boyfriends. Sandra and Lou married in December 1951 and recently celebrated their 69th anniversary.
Lou's employment in the paper industry started in Manhattan, with Hudson Pulp & Paper Corp., now Georgia Pacific, but he was moved to Palatka, FL (1964-78), then back to New York, then to Darien, CT, then to Richmond, VA, where he retired. Their three children were born in Queens, NY, but grew up in East Palatka. Sandra took classes at St. Johns River Jr. College in Palatka. When she was ready to rejoin the work force, she got a job as a teacher's aide at James A. Long Elementary School, an all-Black school, which she helped to integrate in 1968-69, a year before forced desegregation hit Florida. Later she worked for the Florida DOT while it was building a new bridge over the St. Johns River. When her husband's job forced her to move, her organizational skills landed her jobs as office manager for the Queens Symphony Orchestra, and the accounting firms of Macaluso & Nardi in Norwalk, CT and Maddrea, Joyner, Kirkham & Woody, P.C. in Richmond, VA.
Sandra placed a high value on education, wishing her parents had let her go to college The biggest joy in her life was her satisfaction in the scholastic achievements of her children, all of whom were co-valedictorian or co-salutatorian of their high school class; one was awarded the Four-Year Scholar Award at the University of Florida. The three kids obtained a total of nine college degrees at the bachelor's level or above, ultimately earning degrees in law, engineering, computers, and accounting.
In 1998, the couple retired to Royal Palm Beach, FL, where they were active in the Young at Heart Club and participated in many activities at Golden Lakes Village in West Palm Beach. At Golden Lakes Village's dance group, they made good and lasting friendships.
Sandra is survived by her husband Lou; three children, Marcia "Marci" Adler (Moshe), Frank Silbermann (Jan), and Scott Silbermann; eight grandchildren, Michael Adler, Matthew Adler (Melinda Goodman), and Malka Adler, and Tovah, Eliana, Asher, David, and Shoshana Silbermann; three great-grandchildren; an identical twin sister June Roberta; a sister-in-law Estelle Silbermann; and too many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to mention.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their will be a private funeral at Star of David on January 5. Those who wish to may contribute, in Sandra's memory, to Hadassah, Temple Beth El of West Palm Beach, the Chabad of West Palm Beach, or the Chabad of Royal Palm Beach.

I miss the yearly cards with family updates you used to send my mother and me. It was so obvious how very proud you were of all of them. I also miss your wonderful e-mails that were so interesting along with those great jokes, too. I miss our wonderful conversations also which meant the world to me. Just know you are still so missed.

Another year has gone by and I still miss Sandra very much. Her stories about our family history, her jokes, interesting articles, how proud she was of her entire family are etched in my memories forever. As I've said previously, I will always think of her and smile.

Another year without hearing her stories and receiving her emails containing jokes which I thoroughly enjoyed. Sandra will be missed forever and remain always in my heart.

I will miss Sandra telling me stories about our family's history and sending me her funny jokes or interesting articles via e-mail. She always remembered our birthdays, and my mother and I would look forward to receiving her cards, pictures, and updated family information.

She told me about her twin sister, June, and how very proud she was of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also said many times how blessed she was with having such a wonderful family who were always there for her. She was surrounded by their love until the very end, and that, to me, says volumes.

Even though I never got to meet her or her sister, June, I will remember her fondly and always smile.
