Anna Slentz Obituary

Anna Slentz

Dec 14, 2025

Butler - Anna Louise Slentz, 93 of Butler, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Born October 13, 1932 to Burlen & Rose (Roth) Bauman she was the first of five children. For her early educational years, she attended and then graduated from Leo High School in 1951, where she participated in choir and played the trumpet in the school band.

She was married to the love of her life, Robert Dean Slentz for 72 years, and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2025. She worked hard her entire life, starting at very young age, where she helped to care for her younger siblings, worked to help out on their family farm, tending to animals, helping to collect eggs, and much more. She later worked alongside her husband on their farm as well and kept the most beautiful gardens every year, that would produce so well, she was able to can fruit and vegetables for the winter months and gave away extras to help others. She was a homemaker for much of her adult life, but worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne for a few years prior starting their family. She later was the secretary for many years at the Butler United Methodist Church, where she was also a life time member. She was actively involved in multiple church activities and groups, giving generously of her time and talents, preparing and serving at multiple church dinners as part of the United Methodist Women's Club, and always helping with craft bazaars and the annual rummage sale. She had a beautiful singing voice and taught herself how to harmonize beautifully with others, singing in the church choir, a church trio, and a women's quartet through the Home Extension Club that traveled around the state singing at various events, including the state fair. She was a Charter Member of the Town & Country Home Extension Club for 72 years. She participated in 4-H Council for multiple years, serving the youth of DeKalb County. She was an excellent dancer and member of "Skirts & Shirts" square dance club in Auburn that performed a various locations and events. She was very talented at sewing, making many of their square dance outfits over the years.

After retiring, she spent the winter months with her husband at Sunshine RV Resort Park in Harlingen, Texas for 20 plus years. She was an excellent cook, and shared this passion with many of grandchildren and great-grandchildren spending lots of time patiently teaching them her various recipes. You would never find her sitting down, but always on the go whether working around the house, tending her beautiful gardens, spending time with her family, serving others, or watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at many of their extracurricular events.

She and her loving husband held the title of longest married couple in DeKalb County for 6 years. She was a loving, gentle, kind, generous, and exceptional mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to anyone she met.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one infant sibling brother, Arlon Bauman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard Baulkey, Norman Kinsey, Ray (Paula) Slentz, Herbert (Joyce and Margaret) Slentz, Elmer (Donna) Slentz, Donald Girardot, Edie Slentz; son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Becky) Slentz and granddaughter, Kendra Meal.

She leaves behind siblings, Margorie Baulkey, Norene Kinsey, William (Judy) Bauman; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janice Bauman, Lois Girardot, Walter Slentz; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane (Kim) Meal, Denise (Mitch) Shepherd; six grandchildren and their spouses, Crystal (Jon) Huddlestone, John (Stephanie) Slentz, Rachel (Matt) Jun, Ashley (Brandon) Brown, Lance (Tori) Shepherd, and Matthew (Fei-Ma) Slentz and 12 great-grandchildren who absolutely adored her, Rowan, Noah, Mya, Pearl, Lola, Maddox, Hadley, Robbie, Steele, Grace, Rebecca, and Olivia "Maggie."
