Annabel Vassar, age 91, of Clear Lake, SD passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center in Clear Lake, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, June 23rd at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, SD. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5pm on Sunday, June 22nd at the Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery in Revillo, SD. Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake, SD has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Annabel Lorraine Vassar was born in Revillo, South Dakota on January 7, 1934 to parents Andrew and Mary (Brandenburger) Schuchard. She graduated from Revillo High School and attended teachers training to be able to teach at a one room schoolhouse in northwest Deuel County. She was later employed as a waitress for many years in various establishments throughout the areas in which she lived.
Annabel was united in marriage to Francis Edwin Kluge on January 10, 1955 in Blue Island, Illinois. Due to the nature of her husband's job they and their family moved often to various locations within the United States. They later divorced. On September 23, 1979 Annabel was married to Raymond Nestrous Vassar Jr. and they moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas and then in 1999 they retired and moved to Torrington, Wyoming. Raymond died June 21, 2007.
Annabel enjoyed gardening, traveling and doing puzzles. While her eyesight allowed she also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made various things for her family and friends with her talents.
Grateful for having shared Annabel's life are her children: Steve Kluge, Mark Kluge and Gail (Bill) Taylor all of Clear Lake, SD and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; one granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor and one son, Alan Kluge.
