Anne Gardner DiVenere, 80, of Pawleys Island passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, following a prolonged period of declining health.
Anne was born September 28,1943 in New York City to Frederick and Charlotte (Frisbie) Gardner. Anne would spend the first four years of her life there before the family settled in New Canaan, CT. As a child, Anne was a competitive figure skater and enjoyed the unique experience of having her 16th birthday celebration at Radio City Music Hall. Anne was a 1961 graduate of New Canaan High School and went on to study at Endicott Collage and later at The Katherine Gibbs School.
Anne married her high school sweetheart, Peter L M DiVenere, on June 25,1966, and upon his graduation from the University of South Carolina, they sought to build their life together in Pawleys Island, SC where they opened DiVenere Home Center and ultimately made quite a team! Anne was a very gifted and prolific interior designer and member of the ASID, whose work stretched from South Carolina all the way up the eastern seaboard. Anne was an ardent volunteer and active in her community, whether that be at home in South Carolina, or on her beloved island of Nantucket where she spent most of her life as a summer resident. Anne was long descended and deeply connected to the rich history of Nantucket and took great pride in her collection of authentic lightship baskets and Nantucket memorabilia. She never met a stranger and took delight in connecting others. As an avid gardener and home cook, one knew that their door was always open and that there would always be a seat for you at their table. Anne was devoted to her faith and spent countless hours involved in various committees and initiatives within her home church of All Saints Pawleys Island as well as the Summer Street Church on Nantucket. In addition, her time spent volunteering with the Nantucket Historical Association as well as Spiritual Heritage Nantucket were especially meaningful for her. Peter and Anne were married for 51 years and raised two boys, Peter and Adam, before her Peter's passing in 2017.
Anne was a beautiful homemaker and loving wife and mother. She is survived by her cherished youngest son, Adam Mitchell DiVenere, her beloved grandchildren of her predeceased son Peter, Ane Gardner and Peter Bowman and their mother Evelyn DiVenere of Georgetown. Anne was predeceased by her parents, as well as two brothers Frederick Mitchell Gardner and Frederick Hunt Gardner Jr. She is also survived by her sister Charlotte Palmer of Florida.
Whether you called her 'Ane', Mama, Nana or Ms. Anie" her tireless efforts to help those around her, to share the joy of her faith and to be there for those she loved will be the legacy that we will hold most dear.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, April 21st, at All Saints Church in the Large Sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to All Saints Classical Christian School Library, 3560 Kings River Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.
