Anne Laun, 71, of Shepherdsville, died Saturday, August 2, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Anne was born September 20, 1953, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Gertrude Waidlein McGuire. She was a proud graduate of St. John Vianney grade school, Holy Rosary Academy and Jefferson Community & Technical College. She was retired from Norton Healthcare after 41 years as a registered nurse, serving primarily at Norton Children's Hospital, formerly Kosair.
Anne married her husband and love of her life, John, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on December 4, 1976. They had four children: Katie, Johnny, and the twins, Susie and Maggie. Anne was dedicated to her family. She loved spending Sunday evenings with her children and grandchildren, traveling with John and her kids, and hosting her granddaughters for sleepovers.
A devout Catholic, Anne was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mount Washington, Ky., and sang in the choir every Saturday.
She was an avid runner, participating in more than 20 Kentucky Derby Mini Marathons over the years, and was a member of the Iroquois Hill Runners Club. She and John traveled the country to participate in mini-marathons and other races, including races in Pittsburgh, Detroit, Asheville, and Dayton, among many others.
Her favorite hobby was sewing – she loved to make dresses for her children and grandchildren. She was a blue-ribbon and Best-in-Show winner at the Kentucky State Fair. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cross-stitch, and jewelry making – she always kept her hands busy making beautiful gifts for her family and friends.
In their retirement, Anne and John became international travelers. Anne loved going on Viking cruises through France, Germany, and the Mediterranean Sea with their friends. When home, Anne enjoyed watching Monday Night Travel with Rick Steves, and planning her next excursions with John.
Anne was generous her entire life, hosting friends of her children in her home, giving her time to support her friends in times of need, and sharing what she had with others. Anne's generosity continued when she became an organ donor.
Anne was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Lenore Waidlein, whom she called Nana; her mother, Gertrude McGuire; sister, Mary Lynn Delk; and son, John Laun Jr.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, John Laun Sr.; daughters Kathryn Judah (Joshua), Margaret Miller (Joshua), Susan Laun (Jonathan Santamassino); and four granddaughters, Miriam, Leah, Eleanor, and Lilly; along with nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Schmid Funeral Home, Mt. Washington, Ky. Her funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2025 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mt. Washington, Ky. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the WHAS Crusade for Children, the Kentucky Humane Society, or the Archdiocese of Louisville Catholic Services Appeal.
