Anne McKown Obituary

Anne Willson Grim McKown passed away peacefully at her home in Brightview Senior Living Community, Edgewater, MD on February 17th, 2026. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 5, 1934. Anne McKown was from Catonsville, Maryland and preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Barrett (Barry) Lee McKown; her parents, John Frederick Grim and Isabel Tilden Willson; and her brothers, John Frederick Grim, Jr. and Charles Carroll Grim. After going to elementary, middle and high school in Catonsville, she attended Washington College (1952-1956) and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Her Master's degree is from American University. Anne enjoyed her teaching career in Maryland at Golden Ring Junior High, Bladensburg High School, Northwestern High School, as a Guidance Counselor at Friendly High School and also other experiences at St. Simons Elementary School in Georgia and Agana School in Agana, Guam. She retired from educational and supervisory experiences after 30 years. Anne married Barret L. McKown on September 24, 1965 and lived over 50 years in the Loch Haven community of Edgewater, MD. Along with her husband, she enjoyed many travels in and out of the country and around the globe. Active in the community, she and her husband served for 15 years as surrogate parents for U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen in Annapolis. While attending St. Anne's Church in Annapolis, she was a part-time receptionist, Church Bible Reader at services and Usher for communicants. She served on the Board of Directors for Owensville Medical Center as Secretary. Other local memberships she had were with the Flag House Museum, Maryland Historical Society, Loch Haven Community Association, Society of Maryland Manor Lords, Chase Home Auxiliary in Annapolis. She has served as Chaplain and Treasurer of the Daughters of the American Revolution, President and Registrar of the Daughters of the War of 1812 Society, and Treasurer of the Order of the Blue and Gray. She was also appointed to: · Alpha Delta Kappa, Honorary Society for Women's Educators · Maryland Personnel and Guidance Association, Prince George's County · Prince George's County Teacher's Association · The German Society She has received the: · Martha Washington Medal from the Sons of the American Revolution · The Who's Who of American Women Award · The Teacher Washington Science Talent Search Award She and her husband of 59 years enjoyed family, entertaining groups in the home, cooking, music and theatre, and sports in college and high school. In her final days she was able to spend time with her family and friends, whom she so dearly loved and shared many wonderful life experiences with over the years. She
