Newtown, CT – Annette Noel Vickery died peacefully at Maplewood at Newtown on March 29, 2025, at the age of 87, with her husband David by her side and other family members in spirit. Born on December 25, 1937, to Clement and Anita Fagan, Annette grew up in Norwalk, Ct.
Annette was a graduate of Norwalk High School (1957) and St. Vincent's Nursing School in Bridgeport, CT. After moving to Boston to work in nursing, she met David, and they were married in 1962. Annette was a long-time resident of Newtown where she and David built their own home and raised their family.
A great source of pride and fulfillment for Annette was her 30-year career working as an emergency room nurse at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT. It was not uncommon for her family to be told by others that Annette had given them extra special care and attention while they waited to be treated in the emergency room. Even after her retirement at age 70, she continued to help and care for numerous friends and neighbors who needed some kindness. She was a Meals on Wheels and hospice volunteer, as well as a caring mother, avid gardener, dedicated cook and bread baker.
Annette and David spent many joyful summers at their cottage on the coast of Maine where lobster dinners and homemade apple pie were enjoyed by family and friends. Excursions around Penobscot Bay on their boat The Believer were also memorable events. Annette had many cherished friends in her Maine community.
Annette is survived by David, her loving husband of 62 years, as well as their three children: David Vickery (Mary Ann) of Cushing, Maine; Susan Tarinelli (Don) of Collinsville, CT; and Karen O'Neil (Michael) of Lincolnville, Maine, as well as a nephew and five nieces. She is also survived by her much-loved grandchildren: Teal, Marley, Julia, Natalie and Rachel. Annette was predeceased by her sister Nancy Shaw, and cousin Harold Keena.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Maplewood of Newtown for making Annette's final years comfortable, and to Regional Hospice for their care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family ask that you please offer a small kindness to someone in her memory.
Thank you to Honan Funeral Home for Annette's final arrangements, to share a memory or condolence, please visit their website at honanfh.com. A celebration of life will be held in Newtown early this summer, details to be announced.
