Annie Belle Turner Allen, native of Sumter County, AL, was a long-time resident of
Mobile, Alabama, departed this life May 30, 2025, at 10:32 A.M. Mrs. Allen was the sixth (6th) child born to Henry and Hannah(Pearson) Turner on May 27, 1938. She received her formal education in the public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1955. She attended Century Business College. She later graduated from the Life Underwriters training courses and furthered her proficiency by studying Chartered Life Underwriters classes. She was employed by several firms prior to becoming a sales representative for Life of Virginia Insurance Company in 1976. Mrs. Allen was the sole representative of Life of Virginia for five years. She established her own Insurance Agency - Annie T. Allen & Associates, Inc. in 1986.
Her faith and love for God were realized at a young age. She became a member of Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in 1955 and thus, she believed and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Mrs. Allen has been actively involved in the church as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Junior Church Counselor, Home Mission President, Director of Christian Education, Sunday School Superintendent, District Director of Christian Education for Children, Lay Council Conference Secretary and many other positions. In November of 1993, she transferred her membership to Hope Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where she continued to be actively involved. She attended Sunday school, Wednesday Night Bible Study, was a member of the Adult Missionary Society, and the youth Director of Christian Education.
Mrs. Allen lived her life in service to others. She was not selfish with her time, talents, and resources, especially when her Church family, friends, or others were in need. In 1972, Mrs. Allen started a fashion troupe and service group that she coordinated for approximately ten years. The Fashionaires, a group of dedicated women and men seeking no personal financial gain but deriving personal satisfaction in performing a useful function for the benefit of charity. Their motto was, "We Care and We Share". Mrs. Allen later initiated, "The Junior Fashionaires", a group of young teenage girls and boys, helping them to become motivated toward a positive life attitude, accentuating their self-esteem while rendering a useful service to the endeavors of church, civic, social-service groups as well as individuals in need of their services to enlighten and to benefit their efforts.
Mrs. Allen was a member of Church Women United and served this community, state, and nation in many capacities. She was the chairperson for the Imperative – addressing the issues of Women & Children in Poverty, Local President, and State Coordinator of Ecumenical Development, among other roles.
Annie T. Allen was the last surviving member of her siblings.
Annie Belle Turner Allen leaves to cherish her memories a loving family, one son, Lager (Felecia) Allen Jr., two grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle (Bobby) Tate and Lager Allen III (all of Atlanta, Ga.), one great grandson, Bobby Jamal Tate Jr., one aunt Catherine Turner, First Niece, Mary P. Turner-Kwarteng and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, church family, neighbors and friends.
