It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and auntie, Annie Anaya. Annie passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at the age of 79. Annie was born to Felipe and Maria (Gonzales) Anaya on October 12, 1945.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents, Felipe and Maria; her siblings Paul and Lena, Narcy, Lucaria, Tiny and Yvonne, Louie and Elsie, Phillip, Gilbert, niece Arlene, and sister-in-law Belinda Padilla.
Annie is survived by her brother Leroy and wife Frances Anaya, and her sister Debbie and husband Charles Paul. Annie will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews Paul (Louise), Julian, Chris, Val (Gloria), Sefie (Talitha), Manuel (Magdalene), Eslinda, Carlina (Travis), Henry, Carlos (Amanda), Lisa (Willie), Catherine, Joey (Bernice), Tina, Renee (Omar), Richard, Cassandra, JR, Anna (Matt), Jacob, brother-in-law Carlos and sisters in law Rosalie and Priscilla, 42 great-nieces and nephews and 41 great-great nieces and nephews.
Annie blessed her hometown with a dedication to family and faith that will remain unsurpassed. After graduating from Socorro High School in 1963, she began a 37-year career at the Socorro Electric Co-op. During her time there, she started serving as the Youth Group Director at San Miguel Mission. In 1993, she took a very excited bunch of teens to World Youth Day in Denver to see Pope John Paul II. While guiding the teens of her Parish, she would forever be known as Auntie Annie to all. One year after retiring from the Co-op, she began her faithful dedication to serving the Catholic church at San Miguel Mission. Annie served in every way she could because of her love for the Catholic faith. She was an administrator, a Eucharistic minister, a Mayordomo, lector, youth group director, and a confirmation instructor. As a result of her selfless devotion to the parish, she was honored with the St. Francis of Assisi Award by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in 2002.
Children always filled Auntie Annie’s home and heart. Her nephews, nieces, great- and great-great nephews and nieces, as well as her godchildren meant the world to her. The love she had for them and the love they had for her will endure for generations to come.
Please join the family as Annie receives her final Sacrament at San Miguel Mission on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. The rosary will begin at 9:30 am with the mass to follow. Annie will be laid to rest at the San Miguel Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to extend an invitation to join them for fellowship at San Miguel Parish Hall immediately following the burial service.
Annie’s nephews Paul Anaya, Julian Lopez, Val Anaya, and Joey Anaya along with her nieces Carlina Harris, Lisa Valles, Renee Giron, Shanna Anaya, and Anna Berg will serve as pallbearers. All her remaining nephews, nieces, great-, and great-great nephews and nieces will serve as honorary pallbearers.
