Ernestine Gonzales, age 76, of Socorro, NM, entered into eternal rest on October 8th, 2025. She was born on March 7, 1949, in Magdalena, New Mexico, to George Tafoya and Rita (Peralta) Tafoya, both of Magdalena.
Ernestine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Climaco “Maco” Gonzales. Together, they raised two children: Michael Gonzales wife Esther, and Magdalene (Gonzales) Anaya husband Manuel.
Ernestine was also a proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren, a devoted great-grandmother of 13 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Rita Tafoya; her in-laws, Seferino and Carolina Gonzales; and many beloved siblings, in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ernestine will be remembered for her kind heart, deep faith, and the boundless love she had for her family. She was known to her loved ones for her wonderful sense of humor and her delicious home cooking, which brought comfort and joy to all who gathered around her table. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Magdalena, NM.
Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will take place immediately after at the Magdalena Cemetery.
A reception will follow at the Magdalena Parish Hall.
Pallbearers will be:
Manuel “Bubba” Anaya, Isaiah Anaya, Julia Anaya, Melisha Gonzales, Miguel Vigil, and Ronnie Gonzales.
