Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hurley Funeral Home - Pleasanton on Jul. 15, 2025.
Annie Mae (Kovar) Sykora, 78 of Beeville, Texas, saw her first sunrise on May 16, 1947, in Ganado, Texas, born to Emil G. and Frances (Vesely) Kovar Sr. and she saw her last sunset on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in Bigfoot Texas, with her loved ones by her side and on the phone, after a long battle of illnesses.
Just a short time after graduating High School in 1968, Annie married the love of her life, Justin J Sykora Jr., in Ganado, on September 12, 1970, and moved to Stafford, Texas. There she became a member of KJZT and was a member for over 50 years and delivered three great kids that kept them on their toes.
Mom was given the opportunity to work alongside her husband, painting homes, meeting new and more people, who not only became friends but family. Mom was not just a mom; she was a mother who was given the chance to stay home and raise her family. She not only kept up with the house chores, but she held down the household while dad worked to provide for the family.
Mom's love spread when dad took a job offer with Missouri City Fire Department. Oh, the stories of mom cooking and delivering dad's meals when he was on shift. Along her journey mom's welcoming smile always brightened those she met; she could talk for hours when it came to flowers. Did we mention mom's flower garden? Oh, how mom loved her flowers. Dad always had to build her flower planters throughout the yard.
She loved not only dancing to Polka, but she also loved family gatherings where she could cut up with all of those she loved. Not only could she cut a rug in the driveway, but she would also tear up the dance floor at all the weddings of her nieces and nephews.
Mom's greatest gift was her kids whom she loved dearly. She was their biggest supporter, whether it was 4-H/FFA, Band, Football, Basketball, Track and Volleyball. She would make it to almost every event for each of her 3 kids.
After several chapters of raising a family, dad retired and they packed up 28 years and moved south to Beeville, Texas. This became a new chapter of not only being miles away from their kids but started a new beginning. They purchased 10 acres and began a small ranch, raising cattle, goats, dogs, and cats for the next 21 years. Mom loved animals; she stayed active by helping dad with all the livestock. She shared her passion with her grandkids of bottle-feeding baby calves and goats. She adored her grandchildren and was so proud of their amazing accomplishments.
Annie Mae was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul P. and Julia Kovar (Tkac), and Alois John and Anna Vesely (Kutra); her father and mother, Emil G and Frances (Vesely) Kovar Sr.; her aunts and uncles, Anna and Edward Sklanarik, Mary Vesely, Louise and Henry Janecek, John Vesely, Louis Vesely, Joe John and Edith Vesely, Mary Anne and Maurice Starnes, Eula Mae and Davis Tadlock, Bennie Otto Kovar, Alice and William Harriman, and Tillie and Frank Mulle; sister-in-law, Sandra Kovar; and all her fur babies who departed before her.
