Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thorne's Mortuary, Inc. - Stuart on Nov. 18, 2025.
Annie Ruth Williams was born on January 12, 1932, in Augusta, GA to the late Dorothy "Louise"
Reese and Jessie Williams. As she grew, she attended grade school and experienced work
alongside her mother as a sharecropper in rural Georgia.
As she got older, Annie met and fell in love with Robert "Rob" Hampton, with whom she later
had two children, Bennie and Annie Dean. Annie relocated from Georgia to Florida in her mid-
twenties in search of a new and improved life for herself and her children. While in Stuart, she
worked as a caretaker for children, and a housekeeper for private homes and hotels. She
eventually found employment with the Martin County School District, where she worked hard as
a Custodian for Stuart Middle School until she retired. While working there, she met her dearest
friend and "bonus sister", Ida Brothern. The two remained the best of friends until Annie left this
earth.
Annie always knew who God was, as she was taught to respect the Lord by her mother and
grandfather Fate Reese. When she moved to Florida and learned about the church, Annie was
baptized into the body of Christ. She made it her mission to bring up her children and
grandchildren in the admonition of the Lord. Throughout her life, Annie kept God close to her
heart. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren as "The Good Ol' Gandy-Mandy", a
name she gave herself! Annie loved children, and played a crucial role in rearing many of her
grandchildren, but also the children of coworkers and friends.
Annie's favorite pastime was fishing. Any chance she could get, she was out with family or
friends at a lake, creek, or under the bridge catching unsuspecting fish with a cane rod and
whatever bait she could conjure up – be it white bread, bologna, or even worms she dug up
from the earth herself! Annie also enjoyed travelling to Mississippi to spend summers with her
best friend Ida. She enjoyed laughing and having a good time, and her laughter was infectious –
often spreading to those around her.
On the evening of November 12, 2024, God saw fit to beckon Annie home. She was preceded
in death by: Her mother, Dorothy "Louise" Reese; her father, Jessie Williams; her daughter,
Annie Dean Anderson; her daughter-in-law Fibbie Ann Hampton; her sister, Fannie Lou White;
her brothers King David Williams and Jonas Roosevelt; her nephews Rufus Roosevelt and
Harliss White; and her niece Georgia Ann White.
Annie leaves to cherish her precious memory: Her son, Bennie Hampton (Diane) of Ft. Pierce,
FL; seven granddaughters, Shonda Hampton of Plantation, FL, Kicia Thompson-Gilbert
(Duane) of Tallahassee, FL, Kamela Glover (James, Jr.) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kyra Anderson of
