It is with heavy heart we announce the unexpected passing of Anthony "Ant" J. George at UMASS Memorial with his daughters standing by his side.
Born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury MA, Anthony was the youngest child of Carol (Lucente) and Johnny “Ringo” George. He leaves behind his partner Deborah Simone, brothers Johnny George, Jimmy George & his wife Becky, sister Deborah Griffin (late husband Ross), Dianne Louis & her husband Joe, and younger brother Michael Wheeler. He is survived by his two devoted daughters, Alexis Pena & her husband Jose, and Tiana George. He had an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends but was especially close to his brothers, cousins JoJo, Charlie, Kathy, David, and niece Lisa.
Anthony’s greatest pride and joy were his daughters. He was fiercely proud of them and always quick to share their accomplishments with anyone who would listen. His grandchildren Isabella, Lucia, and Gabriel, also brought him much joy. They looked forward to his impromptu, brief visits, as he would always arrive bearing gifts.
Anthony worked many years as a short order cook at the Boulevard Diner. He was a true free spirit with a laid-back soul and had a deep admiration for engines. In his younger years, he cruised around in a black Corvette, the sleekness of the car perfectly matched by his own sharp style, complete with his signature slicked-back hair.
His Harley Davidson was more than just a mode of transportation—it was his lifeline to the open road and a love for the unknown. Whether he was searching for the ocean, the thrill of the casino, or just on an open back road, Anthony was in his element when riding. The sound of that engine was unmistakable—strong, and impossible to ignore. But, his wanderlust wasn’t limited to the motorcycle—he also loved a good snow storm, spending time in his Ford pickup truck and plowing at all hours of the night. And, true to his nature, he could often be seen with a cigarette dangling from his lips, a symbol of his unfiltered, carefree approach to life.
In recent years, he found moments of solstice in the quiet of early morning bike rides, or walks with his loyal furry pal, Harley. You could often find him socializing down Dunks or grabbing a bite to eat at the Bully.
Anthony will be missed more than words can say. His gentle spirit, charming smile, and love for the simple things are woven into the hearts of his family and friends. While his physical presence may no longer grace us, his memory will continue to ride alongside us. Rest easy and ride free always.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses at UMass for their compassionate care and support during Anthony’s time there. Your kindness and dedication brought comfort to him and his loved ones. A celebration of Anthony's life will take place at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, on Wednesday, January 22nd from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. With a Prayer Service beginning at 11:00a.m.
