Anthony Arnold Befort

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Anthony Arnold Befort on June 11, 2025, just three days shy of his 85th birthday. Born June 14, 1940, in Wabasha, Minnesota, and raised in Lake City, Anthony’s life was rooted in faith, family, service, and community.

Raised by John and Katherine Miller, Anthony grew up with a strong sense of values and an appreciation for life’s simple joys. Whether hunting and fishing in the Minnesota wilderness, cheering on his children and grandchildren at their games, or transforming his home into a holiday wonderland—earning the nickname “the Griswold’s”—he lived with warmth, joy, and purpose.

A proud United States Air Force veteran, Anthony enlisted on May 21, 1959, and served honorably as a weatherman until February 13, 1964, achieving the rank of E-4. During his service, he met Marylou, a bright and kind-hearted woman from Germany, who would become the love of his life. Their bond blossomed into 63 years of marriage, built on devotion, laughter, and enduring partnership.

Following his military service, Anthony embarked on a 30-year career with J.I. Case International, where he took pride in selling construction equipment and mentoring others. A natural leader, he gave back to his community by coaching youth baseball and softball, encouraging young athletes with his steady support.

Anthony was a man of many passions. A dedicated fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Texas Rangers, he was often seen in his favorite color purple. He had a deep love for music, from hymns like “Amazing Grace” and “Hallelujah” to Abba and John Denver. His Catholic faith guided his life from a young age, including his time as an altar boy.

But above all, Anthony was a devoted family man—loving, loyal, and ever dependable. He was the heart of every gathering, especially cherished Christmas Eve celebrations with his children: Erwin, John, Stephen, Matt, and Jenny. His presence filled the room with laughter, music, and stories. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people—never meeting a stranger, and always making others feel welcome.

Anthony is survived by his beloved wife, Marylou Befort, and their strong and loving family:

Grandchildren: Anthony, Drew (Kealie), Hunter, Delaney, Hayden, Tiffanie, Nicole and Nate Befort, Aaron Humphrey (Sarah), Brodrick Umblance

Great-grandchildren: Waden, Maddox and Paxton Befort, Zayden and Maisie Humphrey, Ellie and Lochlan Pierce

Siblings: Alvin Befort (Micky), Florence Roemer.

Anthony’s spirit lives on through the generations of family he cherished, the countless lives he touched, and the legacy of love, strength, and integrity he leaves behind. He was a steadfast presence, a storyteller, a friend, and the bridge that connected loved ones across time and distance.

A memorial service to celebrate Anthony’s life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wade Chapel. All are welcome to join in honoring his memory—through shared stories, laughter, and celebration of a man who brought light to so many. Please feel free to wear purple and gold or red, white, and blue.

Though no longer with us in body, Anthony’s spirit remains forever etched in our hearts as a reflection of the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories that continue to shine.

He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
