Anthony J. Bertolino, beloved husband of Patricia E. (Rogers) Bertolino, passed away on November 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Anthony and Patricia celebrated 65 years of marriage in June of this year.
Born in Boston, MA on November 14, 1939, Anthony was the son of the late Frank P. and Ina F. (Safina) Bertolino. He graduated from St. Ann's High School, Class of 1957, where he served as President of his Senior Class. He went on to graduate from Boston College, Class of 1961, and then entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. He was stationed with Infantry regiments at Fort Benning, GA, and Fort Riley, KS, and later served more than twenty years in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Following his active-duty service, Anthony joined the Raytheon Company in Bedford, MA. While working at Raytheon, he attended the New England School of Law, earning his Juris Doctor degree in May 1974. He then entered private practice, specializing in Personal Injury, Maritime, and Business Law.
Although Anthony was dedicated to his professional career, his greatest passion was his family. His happiest moments were spent watching his children and grandchildren grow, thrive, and find success in academics, sports, their careers, and their lives.
Anthony was an active member of many professional, civic, and fraternal organizations, including: Essex County Bar Association (Executive Committee); Gloucester Bar Association (Past Secretary); Sons of Italy (Past Orator); Justinian Law Society; American Legion (Past Judge Advocate); Massachusetts Bar Association; Bass Rocks Golf Club (past member); Rockport Golf Club (past member); Incorporator of Cape Ann Savings Bank; AMVETS; Knights of Columbus; Gloucester Elks; Cape Ann Historical Association; Friends of the Gloucester Council on Aging; Vittori–Rocci Post No. 56; Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity; and he was the longest-serving member of the City of Gloucester Traffic Commission, serving over 40 years. He was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners Hospital, and served as Clerk of Bomco, Inc. Anthony was a longtime member of the former St. Peter's Parish in Gloucester and was currently a member of the Carmelite Chapel in Peabody and Holy Family Parish in Gloucester.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his two daughters and their sons-in-laws: Ina F. "Missie" Bankes, wife of Rowland "Chip" Bankes, Jr., of Salem, NH; and Elizabeth H. Aylmer, fiancée of Brett R. DeGayner; and by his four grandchildren: Peter Christopher Bankes (fiancé of Megan Pitts) of Boston; Jennifer Patricia Bankes (girlfriend of Robert Holmberg) of Boston; John Anthony Aylmer (partner of Sydney Moore) of Omaha, NE; and Patrick Thomas Aylmer, Jr. of Walnut Creek, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Bridget Sala of Marina Del Rey, CA; sisters-in-law Maureen Murray and Alice Nawfel of Gloucester; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his three brothers, Francis P., Xavier F., and Jerome Bertolino; his three sisters, Josephine Bertolino, Christine Bertolino, and Maryann Garalis; his in-laws Leonard A. and Elizabeth H. Rogers; sisters-in-law Madeline Bertolino, Helen Bertolino, and Kathleen Remeika; and brothers-in-law Arthur Sala, John Remeika, Charles Garalis, and Stephen Murray.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Charles Boucher of the Mass General Hospital Cardiac Section for his many years of medical care and friendship. They also extend heartfelt thanks to his dear friends and golf partners Robert Ryan and the late Neil Mann, his friend Garfield Zeitler, and to the staff of Ledgewood Rehab for their exceptional kindness and professionalism throughout Anthony's care.
According to Anthony's wishes, there will be no visiting hours. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church, 74 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anthony's memory to MGH Cardiac Section, 32 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114; Carmelite Chapel, 210 Andover St., Peabody, MA 01960; or Ledgewood Rehab, 87 Herrick St., Beverly, MA 01915.

I will miss Uncle deeply. I'm so grateful I had the chance to visit with him just a few months ago. His love and support were constants in my life, and I always felt them, no matter the distance. I carry with me so many joyful memories of our time together, especially those cherished visits from my childhood. Sending love to everyone during this time.
