Anthony Brodhead Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mathis Funeral Home - Cochran on Mar. 24, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony "Tony" Allan Brodhead, Sr. on March 23, 2025, after a brief illness.
Tony was born in Wrangell, Alaska on September 22, 1941. In 1946, he and his family moved to "the Farm" in Cochran, GA, a place that he would always consider his home. He graduated from Cochran High School in 1959 and, after taking the scenic route through college, he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1967 with a BS in mathematics. He worked as an engineer at Western Electric/AT&T for 30 years. He settled in Atlanta, GA until 1983 before moving to Birmingham, AL, where he lived until 1996. He eventually made his way to Rincon, GA to be near his grandchildren and stayed there for the remainder of his life.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Calvin Brodhead, Sr. and Virginia Shedd Brodhead, his brother, Benjamin Calvin Brodhead, Jr. And his sister, Virginia Brodhead Hatcher.
He is survived by his son, Anthony Allan Brodhead, Jr., his daughter, Sarah "Sally" Brodhead Freeman, his son-in-law, Kerry Freeman, and his two granddaughters who were the light of his life, Katherine and Anna Freeman.
Tony lived a life full of gusto, making friends everywhere he went. He was a self-taught musician with a beautiful voice who loved to cook, eat, and travel. He was the embodiment of the phrase "to know him is to love him" and throughout his life, he amassed a small army of people who loved him.
In honor of Tony (in lieu of flowers), please raise a glass, sing a song, and tell your people how much you love them.
A funeral for Tony will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Cochran, GA on April 26th at 11:00 AM followed by a visitation at 700 Brodhead Road (The Farm).
