Anthony Butala Obituary

Anthony T. "Tom" Butala, 90, of Latrobe, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, peacefully surrounded by his family. Born July 5, 1935, in Latrobe, he was the son of the late John S. Butala and Veronica V. (Ungvarsky) Butala. Tom was a member of St. Rose Church, Latrobe, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at the former Newcomer Products and had been the long-time treasurer of the Newcomer Employees Federal Credit Union. He was a member of the American Legion in Derry, the Derry Ukes, and the Derry Rod & Gun Club. Tom was a jack of all trades who could fix almost anything. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, hunting, and gardening. Tom was also a loyal and dedicated Notre Dame fan. One of his favorite pastimes was attending his grandchildren's events and watching them grow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marcy Goblinger (Steve); two brothers, Leonard Butala and John Butala (Helen); and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward Ray (Rose), Paul Ray, Charles Ray (Gertrude), Nancy Liberoni, Dick Terdle, and Francis Zarzeczny. Tom is survived by his wife, Vianna V. "Ginger" (Ray) Butala, of Latrobe; three sons, Thomas A. Butala (Charlene) of Derry, Timothy A. Butala (Julia) of Latrobe, and Todd A. Butala (Jacquelyn) of Ligonier; two grandchildren, Jamey Butala (Jonathan Soja) and Timothy Butala Jr.; a step-grandson, Seth Shick; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Isabel Soja; one brother, Robert Butala (Carol), of New Alexandria; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dick Ray (Joanne), John Liberoni, Linda Butala, Patricia Terdle, Mary Jane Zarzeczny, and Betty Ruth Ray. Tom is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Independence Excela Hospice and Loyalhanna Care Center for their attention and dedication. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, at LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.
