Mary T. Butala

Mary T Butala passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 21, 1930 in Perth Amboy, NJ to the late Walter and Mary Jankowski. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Perth Amboy and then studied nursing where she then earned her LPN license.
She was married to Lawrence Butala Sr. They had two sons, Lawrence Jr. and Donald. After taking time to raise her family, she later returned to the workforce to assist in supporting her sons and disabled husband. She was a long time resident of Laurence Harbor and an active member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic church.
Her unfaltering generosity was shown in so many ways.... whether it was donating to her favorite charities or crocheting lap blankets for nursing home patients, she was always helping those in need. She loved people. Her quick wit and amazing sense of humor could bring comfort and a smile to all of those lucky enough to have known her. Her loving family and her unwavering faith in God gave her the strength to live life to its fullest in all of her ninety five years. She will be greatly missed by all.
Mary is predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 1993, Son Donald in 2024 and her brother Joseph. She leaves behind her son Lawrence Jr. (Margaret), Donald's wife (her daughter-in-law) Kara Butala, her brother Walter Jankowski (Maryanne), her sister Freda Lucas, two cherished grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her beloved neighbor Heather and close friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 30th at St. Lawrence RC Church in Laurence Harbor, NJ at 10 am.
Interment will follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Sayreville, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking donations be made to the St. Lawrence food pantry.
