Mark Andrew Clifton March 3, 1971 – October 22, 2025
Mark Andrew Clifton, 54, of Little Silver, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 22nd, surrounded by the love of his wife and daughter. Born in Red Bank, NJ, on March 3, 1971, Mark was the beloved son of Catherine (Morrissey) Clifton and the late Joseph Clifton. Growing up in Matawan, he was greatly influenced by his loving uncle and aunt, Bill and Rosemarie Clifton, who played an extraordinary role in shaping the man he became. Their home was a second home to him, filled with love, laughter, and lessons that would stay with him for life. Mark cherished his cousins as deeply as he did his own siblings-Amy, Joe, and Mckenzie-holding them close to his heart like brothers and sisters. Together, they shared countless memories, adventures, and a bond that could never be broken. Even having been regarded as "one of the toughest" guys in Matawan, he was also one of the most kind hearted, charming and most loved. He had a rare combination of strength and warmth, a magnetic personality that drew people to him wherever he went. He was loyal to his friends, protective of those he cared for, and respected by everyone who knew him. He attended St. Joseph's School in Keyport and graduated from Matawan Regional High School before proudly serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. Mark built a remarkable career in the automotive industry, where his honesty, leadership, and unwavering dedication earned him great respect. He began as a salesman at Saturn of Brunswick and worked his way up to become a General Manager for several local dealerships. But anyone who knew Mark would tell you that while he was passionate about his work, his greatest joy came from his family. Mark's heart belonged completely to his wife, Jessica, and their daughter, Belle. Everything he did-every long workday, every trip, every quiet evening at home-was centered around them. He loved exploring the world, admiring nature, and filling his home with laughter, music, and the company of those he loved most. Mark had a gift for bringing people together; his gatherings were legendary for their warmth, good food, and endless stories. Strong but gentle, confident yet kind, Mark had a presence that filled every room. He was tough when he needed to be, yet always led with compassion and humor. Whether he was cheering on his beloved New York Giants or Yankees, offering advice to a friend, or simply sharing a quiet moment with his family, Mark lived every day with heart and purpose. Mark faced life's greatest challenge-his nine-year battle with stage 4 cancer-with the same grace, courage, and optimism that defined every part of his life. Where many might have succumbed to bitterness or despair, Mark refused to let his illness define him. His positivity never wavered, his humor never faded, and his strength inspired everyone around him. Even the renowned doctors and nurses at Memorial Sloan Kettering often remarked that they had never known a patient quite like Mark-someone whose light and spirit lifted others, even in the
hardest of moments. Through every treatment, every setback, and every small victory, he remained a source of hope, courage, and dignity for all who loved him. To his family and countless friends, he wasn't just loved, he was adored. He was the kind of man who made everyone feel seen and valued, a true gentleman who carried himself with grace, humility, and strength. To many, Mark will always be remembered as a legend in the town he loved so much, Matawan, NJ. Mark is predeceased by his father, Joseph Clifton; his sister, Amy Marie Quinn; and his brother, Joseph Clifton. He is survived by his loving wife, Jessica; his cherished daughter, Belle Maria Clifton; his mother, Catherine; and his loving sister, Mckenzie Clifton-Seitz. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry his spirit with them always. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 4:00–8:00 PM at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church in Matawan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 12 noon at St. Clement's, followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Keyport, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for the benefit of his beloved daughter, Belle Maria Clifton, whom Mark adored beyond measure and lovingly thought of until the very end of his days. Mark's life was defined by love, laughter, and loyalty-and though he left this world too soon, his light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
