Anthony Archer “Arch” Cross, Jr. 89, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Saturday 23, 2023, at Homestead Village. Arch was the loving husband of Dorothy “Dolly” (Montgomery) Cross. He was born September 13, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to Anthony Archer Cross, Sr. and Alma Marie Louise (Berger) Cross. Arch graduated from Abington High School in Abington, PA. He served his country with pride in the US Army. Arch was a fireman with Abington Fire Company from 1954 to 1961. For 38 years, he worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Abington.
Family meant everything to Arch. He cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Gathering with his loved ones brought him immense joy. He was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan. Arch loved taking care of his backyard birds, and had a lifelong interest in trains and steam engines. His “gift of gab” and his penchant for telling stories (often more than once) was legendary! Arch and Dolly recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They were former members of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Abington, and members of St. Edward’s Episcopal Church in Lancaster.
In addition to his loving wife, Dolly, Arch is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Cline and husband Christopher, and Debra Groff and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Jillian Piscielli and husband Anthony, and Evan Cline and girlfriend Chelsey Lindaberry; great-grandson Dominic Piscielli; sister Alma Powers and husband Robert; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl “Buzz” Cross.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, 2453 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster PA on October 10, 2023 at 11:00AM. The Reverend Dr. Rick Bauer officiating. Interment at the church with military honors immediately following the service.
