Tony is my classmate from Hawthorne Elementary School throughout the Mighty Sumner Spartan High school. Our schools were historically all-African American. This is a story in itself, that such a disadvantaged area could develop such lasting friendships and respect. We didn't have much, but we had each other. Tony lived on the north side of Hawthorne in a pretty large house. If I remember correctly and, he had a few older siblings.
At Northeast 'Dragons' Junior High school, he called himself, "Lil Tony our Leader " for a while. After not seeing each other for a long time, we did what most people do now. We connected through Facebook. I was in admiration that he was helping others to seek salvation. There is no greater good than helping someone in their faith.
I was shocked when Larry 'Newt' Newton told me that Tony had passed. The immense grief in Newt's voice let me know I was to hear the words no one looks forward to. It seems that the longer we live, the less we become strangers to eternity. I pray his family will find comfort in knowing that in my opinion Tony was/is legendary. Everyone knew him, that's a testimony in itself. Rest in peace Classmate. Absent but not forgotten.

My heartfelt condolences to his daughter and family and our cousins Nanette, James and Dennis and his other siblings and family members.
Tony had the pleasure to live with us a few times during my youth. He would always lead us in family prayer and my grandmother would love to hear him preach. No more suffering and pain. Take your rest dear cousin.
