Anthony M. Escobar, of Middletown, RI, passed away on February 5, 2025, At Forest Farm Assisted Living where he resided.
Born in Newport, RI, on March 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances Escobar. He was the brother to the late Joseph Escobar, the late Mary White, and brother-in-law to the late George White and the late Madeline Escobar.
He is survived by his nephews; Stephen White of Westerly RI, Michael White of Cambria CA, Andrew White of Falmouth MA, Matthew White of Portsmouth RI, and his nieces; Tracey White of Riverside RI, and Cara Turnbull of Middletown RI.
A graduate of Rogers High School Class of 1956, he went on to pursue a career as a bookkeeper for Bowler Van Lines from 1964 to 1991, and part time bookkeeper for B.B. Barker the III Landscaping from 1994 to 2018.
Often seen walking around town, he devoted his spare time researching local sports, primarily school sports, and kept copious notes on the local teams.
He was a fan of the Michigan football team ever since the 1948 Rose Bowl. He was a fan of the New York Yankees from the 1947 World Series through the 1964 World Series. His favorite athletes were baseball players, Bobby Doerr, Tommy Henrich, Hank Bauer, and Gil McDougal, boxer Rocky Marciano, 1964 Olympic track athlete Billy Mills, tennis players Doris Hart, Stan Smith and John McEnroe, and basketball player Lenny Wilkins.
Funeral services will be held on February 19, 2025, with Visiting Hours from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Ave, Newport. Burial will be private.
