Anthony J. Giannattasio

Anthony J. Giannattasio, 99, of Lincoln Park, died at home Thursday, March 10, 2022 in the care of his family.
Born in Brooklyn, Anthony was the son of Napoleon and Antonetta Giannattasio. Raised in Park Slope, Brookyn, he graduated from John Jay High School there before enlisting in the Army. Serving in the height of World War II, Anthony was stationed with the 116th Anti-Air Craft Battallion, and courageously stormed Utah Beach in Normandy on D-day. Later, he helped to defend allied troops in the Battle of the Bulge, and also helped to liberate the Nordhausen Concentration Camp in Germany during his time with the U.S. Army. He was humble, proud, and honored to be of his service to his nation.
Following the war, Anthony was introduced to Esther Munni, also of Brooklyn. The two dated for years before she gave him an ultimatum, and on November 14, 1953, they wed.
Settling in Park Slope, the couple raised three children together there. Anthony held a long career as a Postman in Park Slope, serving the community for 37 years before retiring in the late 1980s. In 1977, Anthony and Esther moved to Lincoln Park, and together they commuted to the city for the last ten years of their careers.
Anthony and Esther were blessed with the births of six grandchildren, and he was grateful for each of his grandkids. In his down time, he loved to cheer on NY sports teams, and was a longtime fan of the Yankees, the Giants, and the Rangers. He had a great sense of humor, and loved to make everyone around him smile.
Anthony had a great passion for cooking, and you couldn't visit his home without him forcing a meal on you. His broccoli rabe and Italian roasted peppers were his specialties, and he will always be remembered for his "Famous Crab Sauce." He loved to end his day with a glass of Scotch and water, or the Tony G Special (gingerale and wine).
Anthony was deeply loved and cared for by his family. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Esther; his children, Anthony Giannattasio, Stephen Giannattasio and his wife Debbie, and Patricia Kline and her husband Chris; his sister, Grace Mazzola; his grandchildren, Lauren, Stefanie, Michael, Anthony, Christopher, and Mackenzie; as well as his many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Nappy and Theresa.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, 155 West Parkway, Pompton Plains. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Magnificat Cemetery, Kinnelon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anthony's memory to Tunnel to Towers would be greatly appreciated by his family.
