Anthony J Gulan

Anthony J. Gulan, age 82, of Shell Lake, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026. He was born on June 15, 1943, in Hurley, Wisconsin, where he later married Jeanne Smith on April 23, 1966.

Anthony devoted his career to teaching junior high social studies and history, a role in which he made a lasting impact on countless students. Outside the classroom, the Brule River was his sanctuary. He not only fished its waters but took joy in teaching others the craft of fly tying, rod making, and the quiet art of the cast. He restored his historic home with the same patience and care, and later in life gave generously of his time through the Shell Lake Lions Club and Meals on Wheels-work that offered him purpose when his body no longer allowed the pursuits he once loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Leone; his wife, Jeanne; his son, Jeffery; his brothers, Larry and Jerry; and his sister, Cathryn Foster.

He is survived by his daughter, Toni Leigh; his son, Robert; and his grandsons, Adam, Ryan, and Ben.

In keeping with his wishes, Anthony will be cremated. A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 11:00am on Friday, April 24.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Anthony Gulan Memorial Scholarship, which will support Shell Lake High School graduates.
