Anthony Ipavec Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waite Funeral Home Brunswick on Jan. 6, 2026.
Anthony "Tony" P. Ipavec, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at Heroes Harbor Hospice at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, surrounded by care and dignity with his son Anthony lovingly by his side.

Tony was born on December 18, 1946, in Euclid, Ohio, to Marie (Lallo) Ipavec and Anton Ipavec, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the youngest of five children and was also preceded in death by his sisters Joan Specht and Portia Wolfe. He is survived by his sister Antoinette "Toni" Ipavec and his brother Robert "Bob" Ipavec.

Tony graduated from Euclid High School in 1964 and proudly served his country as a United States Navy Seabee during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1971. His service was a source of lifelong pride, and he remained deeply connected to the veteran community throughout his life. He was a member of several veteran organizations, including the VFW, AMVETS, the American Legion, and the Moose Club.

Tony was the proud father of two sons, Anthony "Tony" Ipavec and Matthew Ipavec. He was also a devoted "bonus dad" to Ronald Sloban, Michael Sloban, Rick Sloban and Stephen Sloban. He found great joy in his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A skilled carpenter by trade, Tony retired in Fort Myers, Florida, where he spent many years working with his hands and building a life rooted in craftsmanship. He had a lifelong love of darts, drag racing, and tinkering with cars and trucks. One of his greatest joys was watching Rick and his boys build and race their cars at the speedway, a passion he followed with pride and enthusiasm.

After retiring, Tony moved back to Ohio to live with his sister Antoinette, with whom he shared an exceptionally close bond. They were best friends and companions, sharing daily life, laughter, and their beloved dogs, Betsy and Sutie. Betsy was especially dear to Anthony, and he took great pleasure in spoiling both pups.

Above all, Tony treasured time spent with his son Tony and his family, valuing every moment they shared. His loyalty, humor, generosity, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tony's legacy lives on through his family, his service, and the many lives he touched with his steady presence and caring heart.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm, Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon, Friday, January 16, 2026, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville.
