Obituary published on Legacy.com by MacDonald Funeral Home - Marshfield on Aug. 30, 2025.
If you are reading this, that means that Anthony (Tony) E. Keras has passed on after a long battle with lung cancer. Tony, aged 67 of
Marshfield, Massachusetts passed on August 26, 2025.
Tony is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Florence (Mahoney) Keras of Whitman, MA. He leaves behind his wife of 36 years Lori (Packard) Keras, the woman he loved since Junior High school who turned out to be the partner he needed to keep him grounded. He is carried on by his children of whom he could not have been prouder, Alexander Keras of Braintree, MA and Samantha Keras with her husband Jeff Lyon of Newport, VT. Tony knew his children to be kind, gentle, thoughtful members of society and he liked to believe he had something to do with that.
A native of Whitman, Massachusetts, Tony was born on February 8, 1958, at Brockton Hospital into a gang of what would eventually be eight (plus) loving siblings. Kathleen Teahan of Harwich Port, Eileen and Dick Kenealy of Whitman, Ann Sweeney of Middleboro, Sheila Smith Asselin and Christopher Asselin of Goffstown, N.H., Neil and Marie Keras of Falmouth, Mary Pimental of Falmouth, and Elizabeth (Beth) and Dave Dmitruk of Taunton.
Tony progressed through the Whitman school system where he found and kept dear lifelong friends, right until the end. He was the friend who made school assemblies bearable with Delta House or Monty Python references. Known as a man of few words, and perfect one-liners, Tony's humor captured the moment.
As a kid you could find Tony working at The Toll House. As a young man he worked alongside his dad at the Foundry. With no particular plan after graduating from Whitman-Hanson Regional High School in 1976, he did a four-year stint in the U.S. Marine Corps before being honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He attended Bridgewater State for a few years and then moved to New Hampshire to live with his sister, Sheila, and her family and work for the Digital Equipment Company until he reconnected with his love, Lori and moved back to Massachusetts. He earned an Associate's degree in Computer Science at Quincy College graduating Summa Cum Laude. Tony worked at FedEx as a Reprographics Specialist for nine years and retired after a 24-year career as a Programmer and Analyst for Meditech, in Canton, Mass.
It was easy spending time with Tony. He was a serious Boston sports enthusiast, always ready to go to a concert and a food connoisseur like Anthony Bourdain. He was an excellent cook. He made his famous M&M cookies and a Dutch apple pie that rivaled Grammy Mahoney's. He could make impressive biscuits and gravy for a guy from Massachusetts. His imagination and curiosity were illustrated in his mystical and gothic styled drawings.
His legacy is one of humility and integrity. Never seeking the spotlight, his kindness and 6ft 4in stature, made him stand out in a crowd.
Namu, Tony's malamute/husky mix, will be the first dog in a long line of his loved pets to meet him at the rainbow bridge where they will once again take 3 a.m. walks with the neighborhood coyotes.
Tony knew that his obituary featured highlights in his life but wanted readers to know of his love, joy and happiness that his family and friends brought unconditionally into his existence and he hoped to bring with him to whatever was next.
