Anthony S Mattessich

With profound sadness, we announce that Anthony Mattessich has entered his eternal rest on February 26, 2025 due to complications following an unexpected spinal cord injury. Anthony passed away in peace, surrounded by his loving family, finally reuniting with his beloved wife, Doris, in the embrace of Heaven.
Born in Genoa, Italy on August 8, 1951, Anthony immigrated to America as a young boy with his parents, Nicolo and Domenica. The family settled into Hoboken, New Jersey, where Anthony grew up with his sister Frances. In his teen years, Anthony became a basketball star for Hoboken High School. He later went on to play basketball for Mount Saint Mary's College - where he met many lifelong friends whom he still kept in touch with up until his passing. After graduating from the Mount, Anthony worked for Home Insurance in NYC, where he eventually met, and later married, the love of his life, Doris.
Following the birth of their three children, Anthony worked for Dun & Bradstreet for 25 years up until his retirement. Alongside his beloved wife Doris, they devoted their time to creating cherished memories with their grandchildren and cruising the Caribbean with friends. He was an avid fisherman, hardcore Yankees/Jets/Knicks fan ("they stink!"), basketball coach to his kids, and cameraman for all holidays, vacations, sporting events, and more. One of Anthony's favorite places was Southold, Long Island. Yearly vacations finally turned into a family home they could enjoy year round. You could find him fishing with family and celebrating the daily catch with a Coors Light in his favorite spot in the house- the garage. He also enjoyed traveling to local colleges with friends and family to see his favorite basketball team play- the Mount. Anthony's infectious personality, compassionate heart, and epic dance moves attracted all those that surrounded him. He was the biggest fan of all seven grandkids, and could often be found on the sidelines rooting them on in all of their sports and activities. He was the ultimate husband, Dad, Nonno and friend. Anthony's legacy of love, family and faith will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and we will all miss him immensely.
Anthony's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his son Paul Mattessich and his wife Jennifer, daughter Robin Buzas and her husband Christopher, and daughter Alison Fitzgerald. God blessed him with seven adoring grandchildren- Charles, Stella, Lillian, Adelynn, Anthony, Jackson and Mackenzie. Anthony also leaves behind his loving sister, Frances Morin. In addition, he will be deeply mourned by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Christopher and Patricia Erentz, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and neighbors. Anthony is predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Doris, parents Nicolo and Domenica, and brother-in-law John Morin. His absence will be mourned by all those who were blessed to have him in their life.
Our dad was the most giving, compassionate, and generous person. He was the absolute best and we will miss him immensely. For his final act of kindness, our dad has given the gift of life through organ donation. The second chance at life he has provided to multiple people has been a solace for us during this tragic and difficult time. He is and always will be our hero. We hope you know how proud of you we are, Dad, and how lucky we are and what an honor it has been to have you as our dad. We love you.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be Celebrated on Friday March 7, 2025, 11:00 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church 45 Crosswicks St. Bordentown NJ 08505., with Fr. Martin O'Reilly, officiating. Family and friends will honor Anthony at the Bordentown Home for Funerals, 40 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown, NJ on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, from 5:00-8:00pm and then again Friday morning from 9:30-10:30am. A vigil service will begin at 7:30pm Thursday evening by the Bordentown Knights of Columbus #570. Entombment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum. In Fairview NJ.
